Trouble at City Zoo
Trouble at City Zoo.
There are many factors, which determined the behavior in our group of five members that was assigned by our professor. Many organizational theories assist in explaining the behavior noticed within our group. Leadership, Personality, motivation, Group and team work are going to be the topic areas which I am going to explore using organizational behavior.
Organizational behavior can be described as groups of people who work together but contribute individuallay toward accomplishing a shared goal or task. The group project “Trouble at City Zoo” was a case study that helped me reflect on organizational behavior within our group. At first we met as a group and wrote down our goals and preferred channels of communication. Since, everybody had there own schedules and we did not get any class time to work on the project it was decided we would communicate via text messages and google documents. At that time it seemed to be the best channel of communication and as time went by we realized that inorder to be aligned as a team we needed to meet face to face.
We had our initial meeting and a leader emerged, that was wonderful but after that the group did not do anything. Describe punctuated equilibrium. There was conflict when group members did not show up at group members ans we felt that not everybody was contributing to their best abilities. One group member did not even bother to have a text book and I as a leader made sure she got a copy of the case. It was in the group’s best interest that she be given a copy. Then we met for the first time not everybody had read the case and it was apparent and frustrating. Then we were rushed for time and we met the professor and only two out of five could meet the professor. Then we cracked the case and not all members were present at every meeting. It was hard to work as a team. Then I decided to host two meetings at home and the last one brought us closer together since we shared some snacks and personal

During the course, we will move progressively through the individual, group, and organizational levels of behavior within the context of Organizational Behavior (OB) and examine the interrelationship of behavioral phenomena among these levels. Studying OB enables you, as future employees, managers and leaders, to understand your own and others’ behaviors, particularly in teams. It also enhances your ability to effectively communicate and manage human resources, core skills when leading at all levels of an organization. The goal is simple: ultimately, your aim should be to strengthen critical people skills that are essential to becoming a successful leader.…

The group is in the norming stage. This stage is when the members are beginning to come together as a team. Christine job as a lead and support her group and to ensure that they have a basic understanding of the five stages of team development. Christine should have explained how important it is to attend all meetings and how each member should contribute as much as possible. The reason that the stages are back and forth are because the work has already began. During the storming stage, the team gains confidence but there is a conflict and polarization around interpersonal issues. In the mist of this stage, this team is simultaneously in the performing stage; which is polite and avoids conflict. With one week to go left before the assignment is due, one member of the team (Mike) had internal/external conflict. If Christine had a better understand of the stages of group development, it would’ve assisted her leadership role with the team because she would know how to create a more balanced team. Teams can become unbalanced if all team members have similar styles of behavior or team roles. It seemed that four of the five members had a similar personality which is why one person was unintentionally alienated. Knowing this the stages of group development ensures that necessary team roles are covered, and that potential behavioral tensions or weaknesses among the team member are…

This is the phase where group members are supposed to start becoming familiar with each other and start recognizing each other’s strengths and weaknesses. Team members, in this stage, will begin socializing with each other and might be able to ask one another for help and provide constructive criticism for ideas put forth in the group. Our group reached this stage within meeting together only twice. I was expecting it to take multiple weeks’ worth of meeting with each other before we felt comfortable enough with each other to make any progress, but I was wrong. Every member of our group also made it to every meeting (outside of class) on time and was fully prepared to work each time we did meet.…

A significant change to help the group develop is to approach the group from a earlier stage. The group’s cohesiveness and comfort level is not strong enough to move to the working stage. The author would achieve this by making new norms with the inclusion of the clients. With Peter’s departure, the remaining group is all newer members. It does not make sense to continue with norms that the clients did not create or agree to. By creating new norms the group could become more a unit, rather than individual clients at the whim of the group process. The clients also seem to not have any sort of commonality or relationship with one another, let alone know one another’s names. An activity to get to know one another would be a great way to increase cohesiveness and foster future mutual…

Recently widowed Benjamin (Ben) Mee (Matt Damon), still grieving his loss and dealing with school behavior issues with his 14-year-old son, Dylan (Colin Ford), decides to get a fresh start by buying a new house. After touring many houses with his daughter, Rosie (Maggie Elizabeth Jones) and his realtor and finding none to his liking, his daughter finds a paper with what seems like the perfect house he is wanting. They drive up on a beautiful old large house and as Ben inspects the property and tells his realtor it's the perfect home, the realtor tries to explain that the situation is "complicated", when they hear a lion roar outside. The realtor explains that the house comes with a zoo in the back and if they want the house, they have to buy the zoo, which closed to the public several years before. Although reluctant to take on a zoo and all of its animals, he decides to give it a try, when he sees how happy his daughter, Rosie, is playing with the peacocks. His son, Dylan, however hates the idea of moving away from his friends, and retreats into his artwork (drawings and paintings which have grown more macabre since the death of his mother). Ben's brother tries to dissuade Ben from purchasing the property, but Ben buys it anyway. The zoo staff, led by head keeper, Kelly (Scarlett Johansson), help Benjamin to start renovating the zoo with the intent to reopen the zoo to the public. When Kelly confronts Ben about why he would buy a zoo, knowing nothing about how to, Ben thinks about it and responds, "Why not?" Meanwhile, Dylan befriends a young homeschooled girl named Lily (Elle Fanning) who works at the zoo, and has a huge crush on him, to which he is completely oblivious.…
