Tropical Dry Forest
John Rapadas Environmental Science

Biome: Tropical Dry Forest.

- Mammals: In Africa, some of the larger animals such as the white rhino and the giraffe roam in both the tropical dry forest and across the savanna.
Birds: Orange-necked Partridge of Indochina & the Black-and-Tawny seedeater of the Chiquitano forest of South America
Reptiles: Madagascar's western forests contain a large number of chameleon species as well as the world's most endangered tortoise, the Angonoka or Ploughshare Tortoise.
Insects: Common insects include several species of ants, beetles, and termites. Scorpions, which often thrive in drier climates, also make their home in some of the forests as do many types of spiders.
- Humans have more bad to the forests rather than good. Humans have been done deforestation and killing many endangered animals making many go extinct. This mess up the environment terribly and really does no good, other than personal gain. Because all people are doing this for is the money. Those two things hugely impact the environment and mess up food chains.
- The Tropical Dry Forest is very important because is the most threatened terrestrial environment by human intervention. In this kind of environment only survive the species adapted to the restriction in the availability of nutrients and water.
- Other interesting facts: - Most tropical dry forests have been burned to make way for farmland. Also, there are more tropical dry-forests then tropical rainforests.
- Tropical dry forests, in contrast to rainforest, have to survive a long dry season each year, so the predominantly deciduous trees shed their leaves to cope with it.
-There are almost 2,000 scorpion species, but only 30 or 40 have strong enough poison to kill a

One of the many kinds of birds found in the Amazon is the Scarlet Macaw. Macaws are the largest parrots in the world, having a body from beak to tail that can be as long as 33 inches (Jukofsky 1). These particular birds can be found in Bolivia and in eastern Brazil. They spend the majority of their time in boisterous groups along rivers or atop of towering deciduous trees. In the holes of dead canopy trees, Macaws mate for life during the first couple of months of the year. Although these birds spend most of their time above, their diet consists of buts, leaves, seeds, and toxic fruits that could kill other animals; the amount of clay they intake neutralize the plant poisons (Jukofsky 1). These specific macaws are endangered because humans capture them and keep them as pets (“Scarlet” 1). On average, the macaw can live between 30 to 40 years (Goyal 1).…

What does that mean? Well plants need water to grow. Yet to much water is not good. Plants in a rain forest shed water off their leaves .They shed it quickly , but carefully. They do this for two reasons. One is because they don't need the water. Two because to much water can break their branches. How do they shed it off? By having oily coated leaves that are water prof. They could also have grooved leaves that lets the water flow of . This is called the drip tips. Since there is not much sunlight the plants have adapted to having very large leaves. Some leaves move with the sun to get the maximum amount of sunlight. This is called leaf stalks. Although the plants in the under story and forest floor want sunlight and don't want water. The upper canopy and Emergent want water. They have adapted to having big green leathery leaves to absorb the water. Since they are at the top they get the most sun which means that most of their water gets absorbed by the sun. Many trees have buttress and stilt roots for extra support in the shallow, wet soil of the rainforests. There are many vines in the forest. Vines that rape around the tree and strangle it. These vines are not helpful ones at all. They grow and they grow and they grow until the tree falls down. Then they find another tree. These vines grow rapidly in the rainforest. In the rain forest 2500 of the vine population lives their. Many…

Some common animals include elephants, giraffes, zebras, rhinoceros, buffalo, lions, leopards, kangaroos, ostriches and cheetahs. The climate factors have led to an open landscape with widely spaced trees. Many of the animals that live in savannas rely on speed for survival. For others camouflaging is better. The open areas of the savanna provide little means of escape from quick predators so they need a way to survive. There are a number of exotic plant species found in the savannas around the world today. Among the wood plant species are Prickly Acacia, Rubbervine, Mesquite, Lantana, and Prickly Pear. Many herbaceous species have also been found through the savannas. Some include Buffel grass, Giant rat's tail grass, stylos, and other…

The water cycle repeats often along the equator. The main plants in this biome are trees. A lot of the rain that falls on the rainforest never reaches the ground. It stays on the trees because the leaves act as a shield, and some rain never gets past the trees to the smaller plants and grounds below. Trees in this climate reach a height of more than 164 feet.…

“Deciduous” because of the leaves’ ability to change colors in the Autumn, fall off in the late fall and winter, and grow back in the spring. All this has to do with its climate. “ the average annual temperature ranges up to about 20 C down to freezing. Precipitation ranges from around 50 cm yr-1 in the colder regions to over 200 cm/yr(The Temperate Deciduous Forest )”. Almost every Temperate Deciduous Forest is located by an ocean. The reason for this is that the ocean and the wind factor why the temperature and climate change so much in the biome. Most temperate deciduous forests have mild summers ranging to 70 °F. The summer months usually start in the beginning of June and end in the late August. The winter months don't start until December. Winter temperatures are moderately cool with an average temperature lower than freezing. The Temperate Deciduous Forests have almost 14 inches of precipitation in the winter months and more than 18 inches of precipitation in the summer. But all of this really depends on where you live in the Temperate Deciduous Forest. If you live in the south, your summers are going to hit 85℉, and in the north, your summers would hit 65-70℉. The precipitation in the south would be around 50 inches and around 30 inches in the north. There are five different zones in the Temperate Deciduous Forest. “The first zone is the Tree Stratum zone(Connie). The Tree…

Deforestation is one of the biggest ways in which we are depleting the earth of the lungs that uses to purify the atmosphere and clean the environment of carbon dioxide which is a greenhouse gas that contributes to a rising global temperature. (4) The rainforest act as natural cleaners of the environment and help the atmosphere and ourselves by transforming carbon dioxide into Oxygen with the help of the Sun. Nowadays about twenty percent of the greenhouse gases are the effect of tropical rainforest deforestation alone. The way that deforestation impacts our world also affects the water cycle of earth as trees from rainforest whom used to extract groundwater from the earth and release it into the atmosphere are cut down and now unable to do so. Deforestation makes soils become eroded and thru rain…

Rapid development since the siege of Khe-Sanh in Vietnam (1968) and surrounding nations of the Mekong region has caused widespread destruction of their forests. Many of these areas are switching trees for coffee bushes, threatening the extraordinary biodiversity that holds around 1,700 different species. These trees are cut down for the furniture export market. Also, forests are being wiped out for the construction of new large-scale infrastructure.…
