Transition To High School
Welcome family and friends. Today, I represent the graduating class of 2017. Today we take a step forward and move on from Middle School and transition to high school. It may be hard for some of us to let go, but in the end we have to move on. It was a great three years, but now we are stronger, independent adolescents ready to start a new chapter. These last three years can be compared to something I love to do outside of school. Many people play sports in school, and I’m one of them. The sport in which compares to my Middle School experience is no other than Swimming. From the first time I was walking through the crowded hallways to now leaving out the front door I think of all I have accomplished throughout my years.

All those high school entrance tests tore me apart. My classes became significantly harder as I was moved up to different levels. I look back at times were I would break down because the work was so much where I couldn’t even remember my own name. The year progressed very quickly though and soon enough half the year was gone. Each day the school seemed to be getting smaller and smaller as I was swimming at a much faster pace now that I was used to everything. I made a ton of new friends, but also came across a time where almost all of them were gone. I couldn’t tell if it was me being too worked up and angry all the time, or not being that fun. I’ve still got some friends now and I realize how much I’ve grown over the years. I’ve gotten so much more comfortable in my surroundings and is a much better person then I was before.
But the quote I always go by as I went through tough experiences is, “"When life gets you down, you know what you gotta do? Just keep swimming."
Junor High has taugth me a lot about being a better person. I know that they have greatly prepared me for what the future might bring. Sure some of us think highschool will kill us with the overload of work, but the teachers oculdn’t have done a more wonderful job for preparation. I know that I’m not really ready to take a larger step into the future, but there’s no where else to go. I mean when we were coming to Junior High for the

Starting high school was a terrifying idea to me. Different teachers, class times, lockers, drama! I remember that I always looked up to my older sister while she was in high school. She had tons of friends, played sports, participated in student government, and went out for the school play. I wanted to be just like her when I started high school. In middle school, I lined myself up for this, I played soccer in the fall and basketball in the winter. I helped out in the school plays, and I joined the student government. I had a group of great friends, and thought nothing bad was going to happen.…

Many students in middle school think of High School as a place where teachers would not care about them or what they do, party, “freedom” etc. High School “can be that” when a student would make it that, but what really is, it’s a place where teachers prepare students for the big world and College. I didn’t really see that in High School my freshman and sophomore year. I saw it like the rest of the “party animal’’ students did in middle school. Instead of staying home and studying for exams, I would go out to clubs on school days, I would NEVER pay attention in class or Do my homework. I wanted to be like the rest of the “cool” kids. On my Sophomore year I calmed down a bit, I payed attention in school, didn’t really go out and “party” on school nights but I was unorginazed, my notes were awful and some didn’t even make sense! I never really saw my report card last year because my grades where that bad. I ended up going to summer school and making up ALL of my classes.…

My four years of high school wasn’t as great as I hoped it would be but, overall it could have been much more worse. My grades don’t reflect the type of person I am myself, my grades don’t define me at all and I should be viewed for my personality and how I present myself to the world. I didn’t utilize additional support as much as I should have as well my math grades reflect it for the most part.…

Growing up in a small town I rarely experienced any adjustments. I attended the same school a majority of my lifetime. With rarely any change, high school was this unfamiliar petrifying setting. The breakaway from my daily routine was one, I was ready to encounter with the guidance of my loved ones. However, life was at a peculiar state just around this time. My family came across complications and my parents were undergoing a rough patch. Growing up in an unbalanced environment at this age, the transition was puzzling. My older sister whom I would often turn to for reasons was away at college. To overcome this disordered, school turned into a haven where my issues would vanish. I join clubs and seek new things to try. But, it wasn't always…

Four years ago I was not who I am today, everything was horrible for me. From school work to just the people in school, I hated everything. Along with I hung around the wrong people that peer pressured me into doing stupid things to get me in trouble. My 9th and 10th grade year I was a bad kid. Fighting and cussing out teachers because I didn't appreciate the way they spoke to me, skipping classes because my friend thought it would be fun, I was just to stupid and young to realize I was throwing my life away. So going into my 10th grade year I ended up getting sent to an alternative school because of my behavior and lack of school work. They thought this would be a better program for kids like me, but to find out later it was a terrible idea.…

When I went to high school, I had a lot of fun. Maybe a little too much fun for my own good. I can still remember going to parties and staying out late with girls I liked. We would sneak booze in soda bottles wherever we went. I played a few sports and did alright based on my natural talent. School wasn’t too hard and I got A’s and B’s with just a couple C’s over my four year career. By the end of my senior year I was ready to move on to a new chapter in my life with college. My 3.5 grade point average got me into most schools that I applied to. My SAT and ACT scores helped also since they were pretty high. However, when it came time to visit the financial aid office, my high school resume wasn’t enough for me to get a good scholarship. Of the 6 colleges that I had applied to and was accepted, I could only go to the one that offered me the most amount of money to attend their college. It was depressing and only then did I realize that I had made a big mistake during high school. What you do in high school can more or less set you up for success for the rest of your life.…

It seems like it was just yesterday that our class of 2011 walked in to John Glenn High School for the very first time as freshmen. I can still clearly remember how nervous and excited we all were to finally be with the “big kids.” Some of us were so scared we were sick, others were lost in the huge hallways amongst the tall crowd, and others were more ready than ever to go to each class that day. Honestly, it is hard to believe that that was four years ago, and here we are today reading our final speech assignments of high school to each other. In about a week, we will no longer be high school students, but instead we will be high school graduates and soon enough, college students. So as we longingly await May 21st, I will proceed with my final speech assignment about one of our very own classmates, Nicole Hentsch.…

Senior year is the most important of my high school career, so far it’s been full of high and low points. Starting in the summer getting dumped by your best friend; well I thought was not a good starting off point. I felt so alone and upset and never thought I would enjoy the summer break without him. Knowing I had been very dependent on him for a long time, made me weak. Who would have thought a high school relationship wouldn’t last; I didn’t. Middle of summer I started my yearly job as a camp counselor at the Tampa Jewish Community Center, finally opening up to meeting new people I became practically family with, I found myself thinking “this isn’t so bad”. Using all of my energy being responsible with children everyday made everything much easier and I was happy.…

It never occurred to me that graduation would be the end of my youth and the start of my adulthood. Graduating from high school was an influential event that gave me an altered outlook on my existence. As we go on through life, we experience a number of changes that make us who we are today. One of the biggest changes some do not have the opportunity to take advantage of is, continuing one’s education and going to a college or university. Luckily for me, I was given that chance to move forward and go on to Lewis University. Although, many incoming freshman did not realize that going from high school to college is a hard transition, and it is not all fun and games. Granted I prepared myself for this change, it is still very hard as we speak.…

As I got up for graduation day my palms were sweaty all day. I took three showers to keep cool, but then I realized I was only graduating. It wasn’t like I was winning a million dollars or going on the show, “Deal or No Deal”. When I arrived at the auditorium, we gathered in the back gym area and waited for the music to start so we could walk, for the last time, out Warren Easton Charter High School as a student.…

To my fellow graduates, congratulation, I am honour to be here today graduating with all of you. These past four years has been an unforgettable journey which prepared us for what the future holds. Let’s take a moment to reflect on the bonds we developed during our time. Many of us will surely miss these years, on how we survived here together at ASIST, and the memorable and influential moments of our lives. We began high school as children and today we leave and say good bye as adults. Remember, four years ago we walked into this halls as nervous as we were on the first day of school we were so called the freshmen before and now here we are we’re leaving the school behind. We say good bye to our four sided classroom which we have known too well, to our 30 minutes lunches, to our teachers and for those who become part of it. The most important good bye we will say is to each other and the past we created as a class, and now we welcome the opportunities of the future.…

I will like to thank everyone for coming to join the class of 2013 at our graduation and commencement ceremony. Thanks to our family, relatives, faculty, and professors for being here on our special day. Today is the day of entering or facing the "real world" that so many of us have been talking about for four years. In some cases it may had taken more than that but that doesn’t matter, what matters now is how we are going to use it to benefit us. We are here to say our thanks and goodbyes to our memories that we had in high school. Which we will take with us in our journey that has just began. We have to face that same feeling, the fear and excitement that comes when you turn off one road in your life and onto another.…
