Toshiba Eco Model Case Study
The Toshiba Corporation is one of the massive Japanese companies relating to semiconductor and electronics (Burris, 2014). To reach an extremely successful, company does not only concern about maximizing the profits. The framework of Triple Bottom Line was adapted to be cooperative with business field by Toshiba. In 1994, John Elkington who founded a British consultancy called sustainability established the Triple Bottom Line (TBL) to measure performances of organizations (The Economist, 2009). The Triple Bottom Line also involves with the term of Corporate Social Responsibility or CSR (Green Marketing, 2010). For maximizing the profits and being responsible for environment and human rights, the entire businesses have to conform the TBL framework. …show more content…
Moreover, Toshiba has released a greening project called ‘Toshiba Eco Style’ for representation of the long-term sustainability and preservation of the natural resources (Toshiba Eco Style, 2012). This project contains the Greening of Process relating reduction of environmental impacts in manufacturing systems, Greening of Products which is usage of environmentally friendly material, and Greening by Technology that is a concept to develop its company technology in factories (Toshiba Sustainability Programs, n.d.). Particularly, the company lends a helping hand to earthquake victims by installing the electric power system with the concept under construction of a low-carbon eco-town (Toshiba’s Initiatives for Reconstruction and Power Saving, 2014). In 2013, corporation established anti-paper campaign to stop using any paper in one day (Spencer, 2013). The campaign aimed to reduce paper waste, but it did not work because it had both sides of its campaign (Two Sides Facts, n.d.). In addition, one of reasons to cancel a campaign, which indicates the most significant value of paper is that paper can help lots of people to be literacy, and it is renewable material; therefore, advantages far outweigh the disadvantages (WWF, 2010). Hence, the anti-paper campaign was failed and cancelled. In the recent year, Toshiba provided carbon dioxide capture technology to reduce greenhouse gas emission (CO2 Capture and Storage: New Technology for Protecting the Environment and Providing Stable Energy, 2014).
