Tom Brennan Speech Trial Assessment
There is more to life than just physically growing up; it’s about the experiences we gain from them and how we mature from these experiences. It makes us mature and has definitely taught me a thing or two and what I’ve learnt is, our lives are defined by our choices and the pathways we choose to take. They might be good or they might be bad. My name is Tom Brennan and I’ve just been through so much this past year and I’m here to talk to you guys about it because I’ve been told talking about it helps. Last year my brother, Daniel, was in a drink driving accident in which he played a big part of and resulted in the loss of 2 lives. It led to a major up haul of changes in our life. It caused our whole family to be driven out of town, forcing us to move in with my Grandmother, Daniel was sent to prison, some 3000 kms away and the family was a complete wreck, especially the folks. And what about me? I was completely stuck in the past, relieving the memories in my head, thinking I could have done something to change the events of that night. It wasn’t until recently that I started running with my Uncle Brendan; it was a real turning point. As we ran up this massive hill, in which we called the ‘ascent’, I started to tackle my problems and the mountain as well, but at the same time, I got over the accident and everything that tied me to it. Guilt had been my most destructive emotion, it disabled me from having any hope of moving forward in my life but having my dad and Uncle Brendan there to help me really made a difference and I’m starting to really accept people’s assistance in life nowadays. Brendan had a talk with me about moving on with my life and it really helped. Not only that, but he offered to take me to Nepal, well more like force fed it through Chrissy, anyways it was a real push in the right direction. Gave me something to look forward to and boy, was it hard. The training had somewhat doubled; it was like I was training to enter a whole

Have you ever been challenged by an experience? Have you ever changed because of this experience? Good morning to the representives of the Board of studies,.... and I wish to justify why the texts I have studied should be kept on the reading list of this module “Into the World”. “The Story of Tom Brennan” by J.C Burke and the feature article of “Sliver Linings” found in the of Sydney Morning Herald’s “The Good Weekend” both emphasise the idea that people are able to come out of difficult situations and see the world from a new perspective.…

“These traits that defines adolescence makes us more adaptive, both as individuals and as species. Being adolescence makes us more of a grown up and a indualvisual. “But if we smartened up sooner, we’d end up dumber”. If you smartened up and not do stupid stuff the smart will stay and you won't struggle as much. Growing up shows you a bigger perspective on the world because you get to see early how life when you're older is.…

Never in my life had I ever thought that at the age of seventeen years old, I would lose my father in an unexpected accident. To this day, I feel it should have never happened. I would like to think it is all a bad nightmare and that I would wake up to see my father there the next morning, but unfortunately it is not the case. There are a lot of things I did not understand back then; especially about loss, sadness, anger, and fear. When it came down to these things I did not know how to handle these emotions so I began to suppress these feelings and pretend to act like I was the same person as I was before, but I was not. It hurt just as much to put on a mask in front of people who I knew and loved without uttering a word of what I felt in my heart. What hurt the most is that I lied to myself.…

This obstacle that occurred taught me many things. It taught me that I am blessed, and I should not take things for granted. The Lord could have taken my father from me that night, instead he didn’t. He blessed my family with us letting have my father. I tend to take things for granted when I shouldn't because there are people out there who do not have what my family and I have. I need to live everyday as if it is my last because no one is ever guaranteed the next day. Since that obstacle, I have been more thankful for what I have, I have been doing everything I can to make sure my parents are proud of me. I make good grades, I am graduating high school with my Associates of Arts Degree. I do the best I can in my college classes because I know some people are not even able to go to school let alone be dual enrolled between high school and college. The best lesson I learned from this obstacle is that no matter how big the obstacle may be, to always keep pushing through and do your best. Even when things seem like they’ll never get better they will, just pray about it. It taught me to never give up, my father never gave up fighting for his life, so I’ll never give up pushing towards my…

I chose this article because it was very interesting to me. When you are growing out of adolescence into adulthood, you never think of the psychology that is involved in your growing. You don’t think about how and what influences the person you are becoming or the person that you want to be when you reach adulthood. During this stage of social development, you learn more about what you like, how you love and the actual wellness that you are working toward. Most people will never think of this, they think that life is life and that you are just supposed to live it. They have no idea of the development and the consequences…

As we grow as a person to a part of society we learn about many different things, we learn how to cope with different situations in order to form into different individuals. We start seeing things from a different perspective and start forming our own opinions of people, situations and the world in general. As many would think that this is the process of growth; it is also a loss of innocence. It is an aspect of coming of age or an experience in a child or person’s life that makes them more aware of evil, pain or suffering in the world around them.…

In my family, I have a brother that has autism with ADHD that can’t communicate with us, a dad and an aunt that have to go to dialysis three times a week, a mom that has had several surgeries in the past for having stomach cysts, several other aunts and uncles that have Type 2 diabetes, and a grandmother I was really close with who died from lung cancer. These events have forced me to grow up faster than I needed to. It may be a cliché, but for me it’s my life because every day I’ve had to make decisions that either made me mature ten years or take me back ten years in my juvenescence.…

Throughout life, humanity craves the chance to become all "grown up." They are constantly antisipating the opportunity to participate in the activities those of age are able to do. However, what many do not realize is being grown up does indeed give you all of those opportunities to fulfill, but it also takes away something very important, and that is your childhood. Amy Tan's Two Kinds and John Up Dikes A&P, portray both a missing childhood and, sense of adulthood.…
