Time Management Reflection
1. What are some things you can do more efficiently?
The first question pertains to what are some things I can do more effectively. Sticking to a schedule will help me accomplish more. Designating a specific time for studies will certainly keep me on track. Avoiding late night homework and studying will help me be more successful. Focusing on my work during the mornings on weekends will lead to more quality work.
2. What are the main items/tasks that take up most of your time?
During the week, the activities that take up the majority of my time occur during 6am and 8pm. The activities are my career and preparing my children for school and bed. Depending on my work flow I may work up to 9 hours.
During the weekend family activities and appointments take up the majority of my time.
3. Do you see areas in your daily routine where you can make adjustments to become more productive?
With a busy work schedule and family life, organization will be vital. I must make more of a conscious effort to put my children to bed earlier. Putting children to bed earlier during the week will provide an additional productive hour that may be dedicated to my graduate work.
4. Do you have any “black holes” that unnecessarily suck up a lot of your time?
Television consumption happens to be my biggest black hole which usually causes me to waste a lot of time during the week and weekends. Designating the first 2-3 hours of weekend mornings strictly to graduate work will help keep me on track.
When I initially saw the time recording assignment, I did not think much of it. Immediately I began to reflect on how I manage time on a daily basis. I noticed that I don’t leave a lot of time to myself for completing task. This exercise has certainly changed my perspective on the importance of time management. Having a strict schedule will lead to a higher degree of success on the graduate level.

When I have a load of work to do, I manage my time efficiently by sitting down, playing music, with no distractions, and get work done before the assignment’s due date. As soon as I receive a task, whether it be due in a month or the next week, I write it down in my planner, phone, and computer to remind myself to complete my homework. Procrastination is never a problem for me since I plan ahead and stay organized. This allows me to have free time on my weekends, relax from school, and not have to worry much about homework or studying. I’m not employed therefore I have plenty of free time to think about my assignments and give my best effort. Col 101 has taught me how to set my priorities and inspire myself to work hard by adding a treat of some sort to our study time. One of the most important first steps is to learn about time management. Learning the strategies of a good time management system and applying them ultimately will benefit the student tremendously. Stanford (n.d.) states that time management skills will help students manage their goals effectively which will assist them in completing homework assignments on schedule and prepare for examinations. Students will have to monitor their time and adjust it accordingly for studies and assignments. While monitoring my time, I found it helpful in selecting the best times to study and complete my homework assignments. It is suggested that students spend at least two hours studying for every hour of class time. I personally plan on following this rule to give me adequate time to complete my assignments. Every student is different, but he can find a time management system that works best to balance school, work, and family. The planning system utilizing a list with prioritizing tasks as “A”, “B”, or “C” along with an “Outlook” calendar seems to work best. Students also need to learn how to set goals and to incorporate their short- term, mid-term and long-term goals into their academic lives. This will allow them to recognize how necessary their short-term goals are and how they affect their long-term goals. One cannot achieve long-term goals without first succeeding in their short-term goals. They go hand in hand. For example, a long-term goal is to get a BA degree, but I cannot accomplish this without first having success in my short-term goal of attending all classes and completing all work assignments on time. For success in another long-term goal of good health, I would need to be committed to eating healthy foods and not over eat because of stress. Exercising regularly and getting enough sleep regardless of other commitments will ensure students a refreshed and…

Time management is a crucial factor for productive learning. Firstly, as described by the Academic Skills Unit (2012), time management can be achieved by making a “daily planner” (p.23). So I downloaded a daily planner and filled it with my study plans. Doing this helps to complete my daily tasks more efficiently. Secondly, the research of Mark (2006,p.25) also states that scattered time in a day should be utilised and made more productive. For instance,I looked for chances to talk to native speakers while waiting for the train, or participated in conversation actively during my breaks. I have learnt that small bits of time added together can be used very productively.…
