Argumentative Essay: Should Homework Be Banned?
Homework? Banned? Homework is so important in any type of school. It plays a huge part in your learning. It helps you academically. It helps you in college, and for working. Homework should not be banned because it helps you out in the long run for many factors. Homework plays a significant part of learning. In the article “Would The Kids Be All Right Without Homework?”, most educators believe homework can encourage good study habits. As you do homework, then take a test over it, you are regurgitating all the information you memorized from the homework. You use your memory to remember the homework you did. The more you do it the larger your memory grows. It’s hard to remember how to do something if you only do it once and if it pops up later …show more content…
You are very busy in college, so to fit homework into everything such as work, class, and spending time with friends and family can be difficult. According to Max Green, “How homework is done is a much more critical factor in academic performance than how much homework is assigned.”(3)
You need to work harder to manage your time. You build skills to work independently, which is what you will be doing in college. Out in the real world when you have a job that you work independently at, you will be successful. Your study skills grow too, and it’s easier for you to do homework. On the other hand, homework takes away from social time. Instead of visiting with your family or going out with friends, you stay home and do homework. Homework takes away from everything else you should balance in your life. It’s hard to fit homework into the day if you have a job, play sports, work, go to the gym, and hang out with friends. Susan Schwartz says homework can decrease a child’s interest in learning and having parents intervene can lead to conflict.(9) In conclusion, homework should not be banned, as it helps you out in the long run with college and any job. It helps you with working independently, study skills, time management, and being

Moreover, homework isn't only wasting the student's time but the teachers time as well. By marking and grading homework, teachers are wasting their time. So teachers, please don't blame us the we wasted your time. Some people assume that homework is useful for teachers to watch student's progress but I firmly believe that homework is sent home to test the parents, not the children. I think that teachers can watch the student's progress in school better because teachers don't know that at home who did the homework, the parent, the student or the internet (Google)??????? People also think that homework helps parents to understand that the school holds high goals for students. But, I consider that school work is harder than homework and that means that parents can understand that the school holds higher goals than they think. Furthermore, homework becomes terrible if no one can help you. If no one can help you then you are doing work that you don’t understand, and if you don’t understand it what’s the point having the work that you can’t even do. I really, strongly believe that more kids would stay in school and have a better learning experience if they did not have the stress of homework.…

Homework doesn't take all day; realistically you will have time for other things. Homework allows practice for future endeavors, and teaches responsibility and organization skills. Homework allows children to work at their own pace, without peer pressure and afraid of falling behind during class. Homework allows time to study for tests, and go over work that you did in class. Reason being yes I understand that different classes have different papers and some have more worksheets than others but…

To begin with, homework is taking way family time and fun time from students. Because students get a lot of homework they no longer have time to spend time with their family or have their own free time. For instance, in the article titled “5 Reasons Why Homework is Bad for Your Child,” the author states, “Children need time to spend with their family, catch up with friends and attend extracurricular activities so they can refresh their minds and bodies.” The reasons that are stated in the article specifically, are examples of how homework takes away family time. School is supposed to only take up to 6 hours but with homework it no longer take 6 hours of school work but more. Therefore, students don’t have enough time to do there own things.…

It is necessary for a person to want to get rid of a force controlling them. Also, it is commonly known that with growing up, homework should be expected in order to receive a full education. This meaning, every child for twelve years is supposed to make school a priority, and then get an occupation once they are an adult. While I accept this, every student should have the right to pursue other aptitudes which they will use late in life as a career. That being said, homework has caused a great problem in my day to day life.…

The biggest issue would be stress. 56 percent of students considered homework as a primary source of stress. Students do not always understand homework because it may not be understood well enough or explained well thoroughly. Homework can also be seen as a waste of time. We've got some students who'll work from 4 p.m. to 10 that night at a restaurant, then go home and try to get some homework done and get some sleep, and then they have to be at school by 7 in the morning. Other…

I've been in school for 10 years now and I get hammered with homework almost everyday. I know for a fact i'm not the only kid/teenager that feels like it takes away from a fun healthy childhood. When i get home I want go out to the lake and fish or ride a atv around with my friends not sit in my boring house doing homework! And we wonder why America is lazy these days. Teachers must get entertained watching us slave over work day and night. I'm about to end this with my claims and put an end to unnecessary work.…

Shouldn’t the district or teachers assign students less homework? We should have less homework because some students have activities outside of school, they don’t have time to spend with their family anymore, and it may affect their physical health. There should be a sufficient of homework so that students will not have to have a lot of stress.…

    Why Homework Is Bad

First, homework isn't helping kids as they rarely have time to get outside and be active. Without time to get outside and exercise, more and more kids are being diagnosed with ADHD and obesity. They don’t get to have fun and let out energy so when they are at school for seven hours a day they have a harder time concentrating. This has become a growing problem with middle and high school students as many schools have taken out physical education from the school schedule. When kids get home, they won’t have time for exercise if they have hours of homework waiting for them.…

Did you ever think that the pressure from too much homework can cause health problems such as anxiety, and uneasy sleeping? Or that homework fuels the cheating epidemic? Well it does. Homework was originally meant to be a review of what was learned earlier that day in class. But, now at days students are coming home with more and more unnecessary busy work. Some of the down sides of too much homework is that it destroys family life and social structure, because it keeps the child in their room for hours working. Also, the stress of too much after school work can really take a toll on student’s mental health. Nevertheless, homework can be useful. It teaches necessary life lessons such as responsibility and time management. For these reasons, I strongly believe that if students are given an appropriate amount of useful work to take home, homework can be very beneficial.…

Another problem homework can cause is pressure. What parent doesn’t want to see their kid succeed? Yeah, getting into a good college is important, but pressure to perform well doesn’t solve anything. While this may not sound like a serious problem, it really is- there have been cases of suicide due to the pressure that homework brings. An article in the GuangDong News reported that a 10 year old from Foshan, China tried to poison himself. Luckily his parents found him in time and rushed him to a hospital. He said afterwards that the pressure of having to do so much homework everyday was just too unbearable. Although it’s not as drastic as death, another problem is that many pressured kids resort to cheating. People seem to forget that the purpose of homework is to learn, not just to get it done.…

Homework has been around for as long as there have been tax paying schools. The first person to create homework was Robert Nevilis from Italy in 1905 (Roberto). Over the years that homework has been around, people have gotten different impressions and opinions on the topic. Most students believe it is way too much and unnecessary. Teachers believe that homework is very useful and beneficial for the students. While other faculty members believe it is a waste of time. Teachers and students are not the only ones with mixed emotions on this topic (NEA). Parents can also relate. Homework should be reduced because it can interfere with family time and cause tension, it can cause health problems and…

As a student, I know how much work homework can be sometimes and how exhausting that it can be. That is why I think the first reason that giving homework should be forbidden is because homework is too much work for the kids to do and teachers to grade. First, it's too much work because you may get stuck on some of the problems, and you won't get a lot of help at home. Most parents do not understand and/or remember the level of work that you do and won't be able to help you figure it out. My older brother still has to ask for help sometimes from my dad but even he can't figure out what the answer is. Next, homework can be very confusing. Sometimes there might be a few problems you don't understand. You might even try again and again but no matter how hard you try, it is worded so strangely or there was a typo that throws the entire problem off. This stresses out the students who have to get the answer because if they don't they will get HPR. If you can't get the answer, you're not benefiting from the homework. Finally, sometimes there is just too much homework to ever comprehend with. Some kids go home start their homework and spend lots of time laboring over it. I can connect with them because it gets hard having homework in up to six subjects! I will never understand how the school systems don't see how it's too much work.…

Teachers are given a certain amount of time to teach their subject. If they are unable to teach it in the time given to them, they shouldn't be taking away our personal time because they aren't effective. Most students don't need homework to understand a concept, those that do might be assigned more to do but for most, it doesn't help. Homework has just become a way to acclimatize people to a working-market where a large number are required to take work home with themselves and do it unpaid. That is ll that it is. Those who want to learn about something, those who want to understand it, will be the same ones asking questions in classes and looking up the information themselves on their own time. It will not matter if homework is assigned or not, if there is passion for a subject the student will want to learn. All homework does is to make busy work and acclimatize students to working longer hours outside of where they are supposed to be learning or working. The average child spends 7 hours a day in school, 10 hours sleeping and another 4 hours doing life tasks such as eating, showing, traveling, dressing etc. That just leaves 3 hours per day to fit in homework, social interaction, rest and relaxation, organized sport, exersize, chores, playing, reading, arts and crafts etc. To have a child spend such a percentage of their day doing homework is ignoring the many other important life skills that kids need to develop. Some students don't have the time to do homework, and not doing it will affect their grade for the worse. Seriously. It is just inconsiderate to not take into account that some students don't have the time to do homework. And besides, we spend 7 hours a day, 5 times a week, 8 or so months a year in school. If your students can't get all the work done in that time, then you're giving them too much to do. A person can only absorb so much information in a certain amount of time. In my opinion, a clshould consist of this. A teacher gives a lecture on the…
