This School Holiday
SCHOOL HOLIDAYS written by Veronica Chan This school holiday, I spent most of my time at home, although I already knew this was going to happen, I still eagerly awaited the holidays to bring a break from, school work, extracurricular activities and tests. For me, spending the holidays at home is much more fun than being at school.
On the last day of school, I eagerly waited for the school bell to ring at 12:40pm and on that day the time flew past. Then, I felt like a caged bird that has just been set free. I hurried to grab my bag and flung it over my shoulder and finally the school holidays began!
On Monday, I started the journey by going to my friend’s house to record our school project. When we arrived, we talked for a bit and walked around the block waiting for Julia. When Julia finally came we began the record our music video. We had a bit of trouble making it at first but we just started to make it more fun instead of taking it so seriously. We made a change of venues and went to the park so we could have a larger space to film. There we found the perfect areas the film our video with a slide, swings and even a sports stadium! We very much enjoyed recording it there!
Here with the four of us, away from claustrophobic classrooms, the rushing students and busy pathways, I enjoyed the presence of peace. As I took my seat on a swing ready to be filmed, and looked around me, I can see a ton of smiling faces. Birds flew gracefully and children playing quietly among themselves, the sun was shining and it was a beautiful day. When we finally finished recording we went back to Shruti’s house and ended the day off with pizza and chips for dinner.
After that every other day up until Friday was normal and there was nothing special just playing about and sitting around all day.
But on Friday I woke up quick and early, it was the day I have been waiting for a very long time, we went to the “Royal Melbourne Show”. It was such an exciting day for all of us and

I'm six years old, and I'm secretly watching the girls in my class loudly chatting in the corner of the classroom. It's 2008, and I'm quietly sitting on my desk, wondering to myself: "Am I not important enough for a simple goodbye?". I nervously shift on the chair, impatiently waiting for the minutes to tick by. My red sweater is itching against my throat. The teacher came in and we begin class as usual. Ms. Claudia is talking about our final reflections…

Friday was spent at home cooking together and a movie night. Saturday we got up extra early to head over to Mint Hill to watch the Memorial Day parade. This was B’s first parade and she had such a fun time. I am sure it was all the candy flying at her everything three seconds. We got to see firetrucks and ambulances which were her favorite part. When we saw them she would yell “Aunt Ali & Uncle Devy” because Ali is an EMT and Devy is a fireman. She is so proud of them.…

It was a warm sunny day, like the ones you would expect in a summer camp; laughter was the melody that filled the air. Everybody was cheerful and enthusiastic, well everybody except one of our counselors. He was very worried, because his sister had been extremely sick, and nobody had been able to heal her. Everybody in my group had told him how sorry we felt for her, but really nobody connected with his situation, so we were not thinking about it. Instead we were immerging our souls into the contentment that was surrounding us. That day while we were acting, everybody was relaxed, focused and happy on what we were doing. We were living in our own little summer bubble. We decided to take a small break, in between the laughs I remember a friend saying “Isn’t it surprisingly amazing how beautiful life can be?”. That was the last sentence said before a cell phone rang and changed the course of the day.…

I had only gotten six hours of sleep. I didn’t want to get up but today is the day that I get to explore Chicago with my friends! Even though I felt exhausted I pushed myself up and got ready. I didn’t know whether to expect it to be warm like the last few days have been or if it would be cold, so I dressed for both. I pulled my sneakers on and collected my little bag full of snacks and essentials for walking around all day. Getting to school I go sit with my friends outside the gym as we anxiously wait for the bell to ring. We came up with our plan of where we wanted to go as we munched on our little breakfast.…

Bursting through the front doors of the school I stride out into the summer sun. The last day of school is cloudless and the sun shines brightly, warming my face and long chestnut hair blowing in the slight summer breeze. The breeze is chilly and the weather isn’t quite hot enough to feel like a real summer but that’s Seattle for you. Turning my new IPod to one of my favorite songs I start toward home, excited. For this is not just any last day of school, this is the last day of my junior year of high school. I am now officially, a senior. I had been dreaming about this summer for so long and I am determined to make it the best one of my life. I start sprinting home grinning till it hurts with Rabbit’s song “It’s Love” blaring…

One second the rain would be pouring down with such force that you could not see a foot in front of you, and the roads were flooded up to your knees, and the next it was sunny and sticky. The humidity was so high that you constantly felt damp, and your hair frizzed the second you walked outside, but nonetheless it was a beautiful place to see. I walked in the door to stacks of suitcases and tons of kids just like me playing games and getting to know each other. They handed me my lanyard, key, and name tag, and it was time to say goodbye to my parents until the week was over. I was no longer excited , but now apprehensive and wondering if it was too late to back out. I knew it was, and finally said goodbye retreating to my assigned table. There were only two other kids sitting at my table when I arrived but they already seemed to be best friends. By the end of the night I was exhausted, but reeling with excitement for the adventures I would have with my new friends. I texted my mom to say goodnight, and set my alarm for five the next…

These pictures I took on Argyle Street, on Monday November 9th. It was a lovely day to go out and interview people for the speech project. I had an amazing day with my group. First, when we arrived to the street we went to a restaurant to have something to eat. At the restaurant we had a soup that was very delusions. After we ate, we went to interview people. I like that street. There are many cafes, restaurants on that street. On this street it was hard to find people for the interview, everyone was late for work or they hadn’t had time. I had an idea to find a park, because people in the park people always have time to talk. And we went to a park that was on this street. It was dog part, everyone there had a dog, and we interviewed 4 people…

My family, including my dad, my grandpa, my two uncles, my sister, and I all drove one mile down the road to our Lake to appreciate the rest of the sublime day, as we were laughing and smiling to our heart's content. We put our swimming suits on, accumulated our fishing poles and gear, our roasting sticks to cook the hot dogs, and a bag of saccharine marshmallows. On the way toward our destination, we sang many…
