The Tapping Incident Research Paper
The Tapping Incident by Kelsi Harris

Listen, I’m not saying that this was some type of ghost or supernatural thing. I’m just going to say that this is an experience that legitimately freaked me out and continues to terrify me every time I try to sleep in my own bed at my father’s house. The whole ‘being freaked out’ at my dad’s house didn’t really start until a few weeks prior to the tapping incident, I had experienced latched doors opening and closing themselves, garage door opening and closing when the opener was right beside me, and my dogs just barking at nothing. All of these things I’ve brushed off as breezes, flukes of electricity, and my dogs just being crazy dogs. I’ve never had an experience that freaked me out quite as much as the ‘Tapping Incident’ The week prior to

I turned around to face my bed, I saw my earbuds dangling from the side of my mattress, I walked over to investigate. I lightly tapped the plastic back of my ear buds to my metal bed frame, what I heard perfectly mimicked the sound of the tapping that I had heard that night. I figured that when my head had been facing the closet, it moved my earbuds, which made the tapping sound, but I could figure out what had made them tap so violently. But no matter how I tapped it, I could never let go of it and have it continue to tap as vigorously as it had during the night. I concluded that someone or something had to have been holding the earbuds and tapping them vigorously the entire duration of when it was tapping against my Bed frame. After telling my story many times at school, I eventually told my dad when he came to bring me home. “It was probably just mice or something,” he had told me. I forced myself to believe him in order to sleep that night, but even so, I slept with the lights on. To this night I still am terrified to face my closet at night, in fear that the thing that taps will strike

Thirsty I made my way towards the kitchen to pour myself a glass of Cranberry Pomegranate juice. Sitting around what’s left of the dining room table one of its hinges obliterated merely three table legs left as a support. A branch from the oak tree near the kitchen window kept tapping against the walls and windows as the wind blows. This branch at night when the murky moonlight blooms against the massive tree meticulously resemble an oversized man with a knife trying to break into the house. I often dreaded coming down the stairs for a cup of water or juice late at night when the lights were off. The terrified image and screeches sound on the window always send me scurrying right back to my room and ducking under the covers trembling for dear…

“That summer the strangest things began to happen in the rear of the house,” John said. “Doors and windows began to slam. I’d go back there because I thought someone had come in.” Upon inspection though, he would discover the screen door and windows were securely latched from the inside. “There was no way anyone could go out and relatch the door or windows,” John said. One of the more unnerving occurrences even stood his friends’ hair on end. When his friends hung out in the kitchen, which is located in the rear of the house, their cigarettes would mysteriously snuff out. This happened on numerous occasions, but never in the front portion of the house. “I was scared to death of that bedroom, “said john of the room from which most of the spooky happenings seem to take place. That room, which had a window to the kitchen, happened to be his late grandfather’s bedroom and the room in which he died of natural causes 16 years…

I started by asking Mr. and Mrs. Smith what they remembered about the night. The mother hesitantly replied saying her son had told her that he heard weird footsteps before he was attacked. She then started to weep from the realization that the footsteps were from the attacker. As her husband tried to comfort his grieving wife, I asked him what was taken from the house. He thought for a moment and then replied, “Nothing, not a God damn thing.”…

I remember a time when I experienced the most unnerving sensation as I laid in my bed. I was conscious of all of my surroundings. I listened as my clocked ticked away and I could hear the sweet innocent sounds of children playing outside. Everything appeared to be as normal as any other day. To my surprise, something was definitely wrong. I opened my eyes and I thought it was strange; I could not move! I believed that I was paralyzed! As I struggled to move, I began to hyperventilate. I could not catch my breath. The entire ambience of my room was filled with feelings of despair and horror. I laid in my bed defenseless while I concentrated on what appeared to be a dark, shadowy figure near my closet. My fear deeply intensified and suddenly, I snapped out of this frightening ordeal. This is what many endure when they are affected by the phenomenon known as sleep paralysis. Sleep paralysis is a condition that affects all cultures, and it must be explored from a scientific standpoint and not simply based on myth and folklore.…

Great! I was having a sleep paralysis episode. Normally I would get one or maybe two a month but it had been so long since I had one that I was not prepared at all. It wasn’t so bad at first the heaviness of my own limbs was uncomfortable at most but other that that it wasn’t so bad. I accepted it and allowed my brain to drift off to sleep again when I heard the one thing that I hated to hear during one of my episodes. It was faint at first, hidden behind my dad’s monstrous snoring. But it got louder and louder as seconds past, it was the sound of…

We got off the couch and started running back to the stairs. We watched the window from a distance to see if any unusual things would happen again. To our thought, nothing had happened and I started to feel a sense of relief come over me, until a very loud noise almost like something shattering on the floor rang across the room. We ran back upstairs and locked the door, making sure nothing was following us, or nothing would come in. We sat on the bed reminiscing the horrifying event that took place over and over again until I started to get sleepy.…

I am kind of a set forth person who doesn’t like to indulge in non-adventurous activities. “RYLAND, come downstairs, quick”, a spooky, gloomy, shrieking loud voice called out to me from the dark of the house. I was sure, she was the paranormal ghost that everyone in the town was talking about. The lights had gone off and none of the switches could be reached by me in this extremely spine-chilling atmosphere. I called out so loudly, “Mom, where are you?” that, the spooky ghost started creeping towards my very own room. She came real close to me and held her hand out and patted my back…

T'was two days after summer solstice, June 23 I believe, when these curious occurrences started. I was returning to my office, coming back from an employee conference, when I heard footsteps behind me, in the corridor. The place was all but empty and this surprised me a little, so I turned around slowly to look. At that very same moment, the footsteps stopped, and nobody was anywhere to be seen. I continued walking, listening carefully and after a few seconds, the footsteps predictably restarted. However in this instance, the steps sounded almost with purpose, as if they were deliberately stomped to make as much noise as possible. Worried, I turned and retraced my steps backwards, treading carefully, and breathing as quietly as humanly possible when one secretly wants to heavily pant for breath. The horrific images of the arson attack two years ago, and the now infamous murder in the grounds of the building little over 9 months ago were fresh in my mind. I reached the beginning of the corridor, a spot well known for not having seen natural light for years. Surrounded by the somewhat claustrophobic darkness, I slowly turned my head left, shaking.…
