The Story Of Saipan's Family
Long ago, on the island of Saipan, lived a poor family. In this family was a teenage boy named Andrew. Andrew’s family was really poor and farming was the only thing that kept them alive. Andrew's parents didn't have any jobs and they also didn't have any family on the island with them. Life was really hard for them but they did the best that they could.

On their little farm were many different vegetables and animals. They had chickens, pigs, cows, ducks, but all these things weren't enough. Even though Andrew’s family had all these things to sell, there was never enough money to get Andrew what he wanted. All the money would usually go to the bills and food and Andrew was always mad because there were a lot of things he wanted for himself.

“Deal.” Says Andrew
The demon smiles, shakes Andrew’s hand, and disappears leaving nothing but a bag of money. “Wow”, says Andrew, as he looks at the bag full of money.
“What will I do with all this money and how will I hide it?”

Weeks pass, and Andrew’s parents are amazed at all the money he brought home. “Where are you getting all this money, son?”, asked his father.
“I got a job.”, Andrew says and they just left it at that.

Months of lying go by, and Andrew starts to regret.
“I don't like having all this money and lying about where I get it.” says Andrew. “I will go back and ask the demon for my soul back.”

Andrew walks again to his camp in the jungle and is relieved when he sees the demon. “How is the rich life?”, asks the demon.

“I don't like it.”, says Andrew. “I want my soul back.” The demon laughs and says, “Are you sure?” “Yes.”, says Andrew. “I will do anything to get my soul back.”

The demon says, “in order to get your souls back, you must either kill your parents or yourself.” “What?”, says Andrew. The demon disappears, but before leaving he says, “make your

Underwood, his master warns, “Demons are very wicked. They will hurt you if they can” (Stroud 27). Demons are truly just as his master has described and will take advantage of their summoner’s time after they have been assigned a task to find out their name and make them suffer. During Nathaniel’s learning there have been stories of other magicians who have been destroyed by the demons that they have summoned in the past in some of the most frightening ways. This highlights the true nature of Bartimaeus as a demon who has hope in harming the lives of anyone who summons him, which shows that he is evil. This furthermore shows that I would not be friends with Bartimaeus, because he presents himself to each of his summoners as an evil demon who wishes to cause then…

"Where do you think Abigal could be Parris?" Danforth said. "I believe she has gone to the ship that is going to be on its way to Barbados," Parris said sadly," She has taken my money and she has gone with Mary Warren, Sir." "Call Hale, and we will find her right away." As the three of them go onto a hidden path a few miles down they see Abigal and Marry Warren. "STOP! STOP RIGHT THERE YOUNG LADIES!" Danforth screamed. They cuffed the girls and took them back to the jail house. "Bring me only Abigal, leave Marry Warren in the cell until further notice." There were two knocks on the door, and entered Abigal Parris. "Where were you going Abigal?" Said Danforth. "Sir, I was going to Barbados. I was going to Barbados to be with Tituba, and to get away from the madness. Everyone has trafficked with the devil here, Sir. I am one of the only pure ones in this village!" Abigal said. "Abigal you have fooled us enough. You have beguiled everyone in this village. Have you trafficked with the devil? Have you seen the face of the fiend? Have you seen anyone with him?" Danforth said in disgust. "No, Sir. I love God." She replied. "Take her to the cell and bring in Marry Warren." Danforth said. He heard footsteps through the hallway, and then three knocks on the door. "Marry Warren, where were you and Abigal going?" Danforth said. "Abigal was taking me to Barbadoes. She said she wanted to be with Tituba, so they…

    The Devil and Tom Walker

The story "The Devil and Tom Walker" is a story about a man who lives an immoral life of greed. Walker lives in a solemn, wooded, quiet area of New England. Walker runs into the devil and sees that the devil is cutting down someone else's timber. The evil is shown, by the devil in how he is premeditating the murder of "Deacon Peabody". Walker contemplates this meeting with the devil, and recognizes that wealth is the first priority for him. Tom Walker's wife was filled with greed and wanted to acquire the gold that the devil had promised. Walker hadn't obliged to his wife, and due to his wife's acute greediness set out on her own journey to acquire that gold. She had been killed because of her greed, and lack of morals for self-prosperity, which resulted in her death. This is an important example of the use of evil within "The Devil and Tom Walker". Walker is told from the devil that he could earn money through usury and extortion. Walker commits to usury and makes a generous sum of money. Walker has no repentance for such a sin and continues to his usury. The evil accumulates in the story as Walker accumulates more and more money, resulting from more and more greed. The accumulation of this money leads to a climactic point where Walker is fed up with his accumulation of money, and asks to be taken by the devil. Consequently, the devil "takes" Walker to hell. The evil is fluently represented by Walker "selling himself to the devil", and his inability to understand that material possessions couldn't be taken to the next world.…

Tom Walker makes a deal with the devil, turning him from rags to riches. He quickly becomes rich after opening a bank with the fortune he gathered from the devil. Tom buys everything he wants and before long “began to feel anxious about those of the next. He thought with regret on the bargain he had made with his black friend, and set his wits to work to cheat him out of the conditions. He became, therefore, all of the sudden, a violent churchgoer”(Irving 13). Tom no longer was content with his deal of selling his soul to the devil. He began to see that his freedom and his life was more important than his big house and money. The fact that Irving included this shows how his quality of life really did not improve as he was trying to. The romantic value of freedom over goods shines through with Tom’s realization that he wanted his life back. This trend of regret continues after Stephen Benet’s Jabez Stone gets fed up with all of the things that happen to him. He feels he is the most unlucky person in the world and makes a deal with the devil so that he can have good luck for (ultimately) ten years before the devil takes him. The deal makes Jabez have good crop turnout, strong horses, and good luck, but also extreme apprehensiveness “For every day, when he gets up, he thinks, ‘There’s one more night gone,’ and every night he lies down he thinks of the black pocketbook and the soul of Miser Stevens, and it makes him sick at heart”(Benet 310). Stone cannot bear the fact the he can count down the days until his death. The benefits of the deal with the devil no longer help Jabez and he realizes that his freedom is more important than having nice. He cannot enjoy his life no matter what while he knows his fate, showing romanticism’s emphasis on freedom for self realization. Jabez’s good luck is quickly overshadowed when he realizes he doesn’t have his life anymore,…
