Bartimaeus Hero's Journey

Have you ever done someone else's job, and they never even regarded you after you went to great lengths for them? Well, Bartimaeus knows the pain that those people feel, and in The Bartimaeus Trilogy - Book One, the author Stroud has presented Bartimaeus as one who lives in a world of commoners and magicians who summon demons/spirits like Bartimaeus to do their own dirty work. When demons are completing the tasks assigned to them you never know what they might encounter and their summoners do not care at all what troubles they go through. If the demon comes across their summoner's name, they can use it against that summoner and possibly destroy them when they are next summoned. Underwood, his master warns, “Demons are very wicked. They will hurt you if they can” (Stroud 27). Demons are truly just as his master has described and will take advantage of their summoner’s time after they have been assigned a task to find out their name and make them suffer. During Nathaniel’s learning there have been stories of other magicians who have been destroyed by the demons that they have summoned in the past in some of the most frightening ways. This highlights the true nature of Bartimaeus as a demon who has hope in harming the lives of anyone who summons him, which shows that he is evil. For example, after Bartimaeus had parted Nathaniel after three attempts at destroying him, “My head was so full of competing plans and complex stratagems that I did not look where I was going and flew straight into a chimney” (Stroud 146). As you can see, Bartimaeus flying into a chimney because he was thinking so hard about completing plans just goes to show that he is obsessed about taking revenge on Nathaniel because of what he has gone through to complete his tasks, and now knows his name. He would be the kind of person who you would only want to be friends with so you could be on their good side. A friend should be able to accept that you might disagree, fight, or ask them to use up their time to help you. This most definitely shows that Bartimaeus is revengeful, because he plans to go to great lengths to get back at those who have caused him
