The Stamp Act: A Short Story
I remember it just like it was yesterday, the stamp act. It was July if 1765. My parents and I was gathered around the kitchen table eating dinner. Then a tall man came banging on the door, like we owned him something.My dad rushed over to the door, and he peeked through the peep hole on the door. When he opened the door I was told to go upstairs in my room. I jolted up the stairs, skipping every other one, to look out my window. There was a faint sound in the distance when I opened my bedroom door. I had to squint, because I didn't have my new pair of glasses on. I didnt see much but I did see a bunch of flames going toward the Mickealson's house, they were the new tax collectors in town. About 10 minutes later, my mom came up in my room and said I could go back down to finish eating dinner. My seat was fairly cold when I sat in it. As I glanced around, I asked mother where father went. She simply said that he had to go to his black smith buisness real quick because a tall man with a mustache broke into his shop.

He said that he hasn't bought any in the last couple weeks. I got so mad, I just blew up in his face. I told him that he is acting really shady the last few days. After a few minutes of silence he came out of his shell and told me what happened. He was explaining that no one never broke into his store, and he went to burn down the Mickealson's houses with a mob of people. Britain was in debt, so they was taxing us, the colonist. They called it the “Stamp Act,” most of the colonist hated it. The Stamp Act was a tax on all printed goods like; paper, playing cars, stamps, etc. There was a person called the tax collectors and they went around to the shops taking up the tax money and sending it back to Great
