Procopius is considered to be a historian, who lived in the 6th century. From his works we are able to visit back into the Byzantine Empire, when Emperor Justinian reigned. Through the three books he created: “History of the Wars”, “The Buildings of Justinian”, and “The Secret History”, he is our primary source of information about the reign of Emperor Justinian. After reading “The Secret History”, I found the tone of the book to be different than that of a classical historian’s book. Procopius tells us that he wants the true events of this time to be recorded, for all to know the misdeeds of the tyrants, so that “those who in the future, if it so happens,…

As for many emperors it was not uncommon for them to stray from their wives with many discrepancies, yet Caligula’s sexual conquest involved encounters with his sisters which of the two he had favored Drusilla the most. The Italian Almanac biography goes into further detail of what his relationship with his sister Drusilla grew into in stating, “Caligula forced Drusilla to live with him as his wife, following the practice of the Egyptian pharaohs. It was said that when Drusilla became pregnant, Caligula couldn't wait for the birth of their god-like child and disemboweled her to pluck the unborn baby from her womb. True or not, Drusilla died and Caligula had her deified.” Caligula would boast about bedding the women he stole from other men, taking whatever he wanted was not out of the norm for an emperor, but when there were rumors of him and his sisters the people became to openly question their emperor. He exiled or killed many family members not to mention the enemies or the people who dared to comment on the ruler in an aspect if he got wind of the word they would be put to death immediately. Forcing families to watch their loved ones to be executed, he reveled in other’s pain it amused him…

    Marcus Tullius Analysis

    • 871 Words
    • 4 Pages

Marcus Tullius Cicero was assigned the proconsulship of Cilicia during the year 51-50 B.C. and, via correspondence between him and multiple of his close friends, his attitudes and actions during his governorship become quite clear. Although his aims maintain hints of triviality, there is no doubt that, based on Cicero’s own words, he had the province’s well-being and his duties in mind. This being said, Cicero by no means speaks highly of Cilicia and it is evident that his attitude poorly matches the honor and potential that accompanies a provincial governorship. This being said, actions and attitude are not necessarily equivalent and, based on his accounts, one must arrive at the conclusion that Marcus Tullius…

The five Greek students, Camilla, Henry, Francis, Charles and Richard were patiently waiting near the ravine, hoping for their friend to come. When they almost gave up and were on the verge of leaving, a drunken Bunny emerged from the footpath. ‘So, what’s the story, deerslayers? You all just felt like coming out here to study the vegetation?’. ‘Well, not exactly’, said the cool voice of Henry and he took a step towards him. Bunny’s eyed widened with startled incredulity. ‘Come on, fellas, you’re joking, right?’ Henry gave Bunny a push, who toppled backwards and fell to his death. The novel “The Secret History” by Donna Tartt deals with everything around the murder of Bunny, from the students’ motives till the dreadful moments after his death and funeral. It seems the the Roman republic entered a war with the conspirators and their allies, and endangering the populace of Philippi. Fortunately for the Macedonians, no known account of casualties were suffered for the people of Philippi. I can not say this war was in bad taste, as our triumvirates avenged our Caesar after being called too ambitious by the “noble”, Brutus. And being slain by him and other senators of the Roman republic.…
