In Macbeth, by William Shakespeare, oftentimes one small action leads to a very significant turn of events. When the witches’ prophecies predict that Macbeth will become King of Scotland, his mind becomes set on the throne. Macbeth then goes to extreme measures to obtain the crown. This leads the reader to question whether the witches can actually predict the future, or do they simply light the spark that turns into a wildfire within the mind of Macbeth? Macbeth’s feelings of temptation lead him to drastic measures. The fact that one thing only leads to something worse, brings up the notion of the growing fire, or a disease spreading through a population over time.
