Essay On The Role Of Fate In Macbeth
Macbeth, the famous play written by Shakespeare, has a numerous amount of factors that contribute to the untimely fate of Macbeth. Hecate, the Greek Goddess of sorcery, crossroads, ghosts, and necromancy, scolded the three witches for spoiling Macbeth’s fate by telling him the path he was eventually going to end up taking. Insinuating that they knew his fate, they told him that he would become Thane of Cawdor and continue on to gain the title of king. Macbeth’s murdering of the king was the path that he was always going to take-- it was his fate.
The Three Witches, also known as the Weïrd Sisters, are the other main characters of the play besides Macbeth and his lady wife. They give Macbeth the very set of prophecies that causes the ratiocination behind several events to be put into action-- namely, Macbeth killing the King, Duncan, and taking over to become king himself. She had single handedly changed Macbeth’s mind when he had decided he was going to let fate take its course and solely let everything play out however it was going to. He was not entirely desperate to become king and was content with being the Thane of Glamis and the Thane of Cawdor, therefore he was not exactly intent on murdering the king to claim the throne for his own. Though, almost too easily, Lady Macbeth had convinced him that to become king, he had to murder the king and frame someone else-- it was their only course of action. Of course, she was more power hungry than the once humble Macbeth had been, so she had done the framing and most of the schmoozing.
