The Right To Concealed Carry
School campus’ have always been a large target for shooters and attackers. Students and teachers that have spent time to gain the trust of the government to conceal carry should also be able to holster on a campus without interruption. Many people will say having any weapons is a danger to students and any other pedestrians on campus but a law abiding citizen that has had training and known when a weapon should and shouldn't be used could be vital to saving the lives of many during a life or death situation. Shooters also knowing that this is true are a lot less likely to try and target a school knowing there is going to be resistance. Through our second amendment right we have the right to own guns but we are not allowed to carry in every location to make yourself feel protected. Responsible citizens should be allowed to arm themselves against criminals in any location in which a threat may be evident. One group of people that has every right to feel especially intimidated is females, a young woman with her concealed carry gave her testimony about being raped walking back to her dorm at on a college campus because she was not allowed to carry a weapon with her has now made many states also consider allowing responsible civilians to protect themselves even on campus. A recent study shows that no matter if the victim is male or female if a gun is pulled out 55.5 percent of all attackers would retreat. Students are also law abiding citizens so they should also be given the right to carry legal weapons on their person. A common argument made against allowing weapons on a college campus is that there is too much stress among students and allowing a gun to be allowed would make it easier to have students themselves cause harm to other students but there is just as much stress, maybe even more, than a college student. Campus Security Officers and cameras are in place on every public campus in the United States but when it comes to stopping a shooter that is only going to take a matter of minutes to injure or even kill as many pedestrians as he can having a security guard that is not in the direct area of the incident has a very slim chance of being able to prevent the shooter from causing havoc on campus. Aside from campus Security the American Police Department is in an even worse place due to the fact that their average response time is nine to ten minutes. A civilian trying to ruin the lives of hundred by shooting student and teachers alike on campus is going to be finished with their rampage before that ten minute mark is going to be reached which is going to leave many student in the path of destruction little hope for surviving. College campuses need to be aware of these police response times to make sure that they're able to well protect their students and many students feel better when they are able to protect themselves.
