Why Colleges Should Not Have Guns On Campus
Many people have different views on the topic of the guns on campus. Which being said the question is should colleges and universities allow guns on campus. I believe guns on campus would cause more fear and risk for students, not all conceal and carry holders are “law-abiding” citizens, and, lastly, only security guards should carry guns. Therefore, colleges and universities should only allow securities to have guns on campus for protection and everyone else should be forbidden.
Having guns on campus would not be a very healthy learning environment. When students sit in a classroom, they should not have the fear of one of their classmates pulling out a gun. If students are too busy thinking about guns being on campus, it could distract them from actually working. This issue might even extend to not wanting to go to school because they feel unsafe and uncomfortable. Also not a very healthy teaching environment for teachers. Many people treat stress differently and students under stress can cause unnecessary accidents, this can increase if guns on campus are allowed. If guns are on campus suicide rates raise up to 85% as posted on smartgunlaws.org. Therefore to avoid it all, guns should not be allowed because people might misuse them.There has been many cases on the news of students going on a killing spree because they aren't mentally healthy. Statistics shown that students between 18-25 have high risk of serious mental illness. Exams after exams, homework on top of homework then, some deal with personal issues like a relationship or work which means colleges students are more likely to have lots of stress.
