The Republican party was originally formed from the Whig Party Wisconsin on March 20, 1854. It was a party that was created to help free slaves in the western areas in 1834. The Democratic party was also called the “white man’s party”. In the 1840’s and the 1850’s the the Northern Democratic party was in a argument about having too much slaves in the western areas. Southern Democrats wanted to protect the slaves in all areas while the Northern Democrats didn’t. Due to this issue the party was split in 1860. After the victorious election from Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War, the Democratic party was determined to recapture their southern area. I think he is the best Republican President because he was a great leader, honest and a brave President. He bravely led the country through Civil War. Abraham Lincoln also decreased the amount of slavery with the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863 which he wrote. “He carried on despite generals who weren’t ready to fight, assassination threats, bickering among his Cabinet members such as the Copperhead”. http://rogerjnorton.com/Lincoln87.html . Poor people over in the east were allowed to obtain land because of Abraham Lincoln’s policies. Another reason is because that society looks back on him as a role model for future generations.
