The Pyxis Synthesis
My favourite constellation is the Pyxis. The Pyxis constellation is my favourite because of it's meaning. Pyxis is Latin for "the Mariner's Compass." My family has been in the Navy for years, and compasses are very close to my heart. They helped my family come home.

The constellation was found by a French astronomer named Nicolas Louis de Lacaille when he was searching the Southern skies. He originally named the constellation as la Bousolle, but the Latins renamed it as Pixis Nautica. There is a constellation that some seamen get confused with the Pyxis called Circinus, which is also a compass.

The Pyxis was found on the Puppis, which was a poopdeck on a ship. There was a horrible storm which caused the compass to fall into its own place

As we started the first program, we answered a few questions to make sure we knew the general idea of stars. Then we labeled the altitude and azimuth of five objects. Aldebran had a altitude of 54o and an azimuth of 203o. Betelgeuse had an altitude of 47o and an azimuth of 203o. Castor had an altitude of 62o and an azimuth 118o. Deneb had an altitude of 13o and an azimuth of 328o. Elnath had an altitude of 68o and an azimuth of 184o. After that, we looked at the right ascension and declination (RA and DEC). Aldebran had a RA of 4.6 hours and a DEC of 16o. Elnath had an RA of 5.3 hours and a DEC of 28o. Betelgeuse had an RA of 5.9 hours and a DEC of 8o. Castor had an RA of 7.6 hours and a DEC of 32o. Deneb had an RA of 20.7 hours and a DEC of 46o. Finally we looked at the Big Dipper and the Cassopia to find the star Polaris.…

The constellation that I chose can be seen during midwinter on the south side of the sky from Tishomingo, Oklahoma. The constellation symbolizes the Mythical Bulgarian Crown, which was first worn from King Simeon the First in 893 A.D. The crown symbolizes majesty, might, strength, and wisdom. The story states that only royal people could wear that accessory they had to be reliable and responsible, in order to be given the opportunity to wear the Crown.…

The constellation i choose is Andromeda because i think that it's myth it's very intersting.Andromeda is one of the 48 listed by the 2nd-century Greco-Roman astronomer Ptolemy and remains one of the 88 modern constellations.. Located north of the celeatial equator. Andromeda is most prominent during autumn evenings in the Nothern Hemisphere, along with several other constellations named for characters in the Perseus myth. Because of its northern declination, Andromeda is visible only north of 40° south latitude; for observers farther south it lies below the horizon. It is one of the largest constellations, with an area of 722 square degrees. This is over 1,400 times the size of the full moon, 55% of the size of the largest constellation,…

My favorite constellation is Corvus, the crow or raven constellation. I chose Corvus because I find the name most appealing and crows are my favorite type of bird. Corvus is a small constellation within the southern hemisphere. It was one of the 48 constellations created by the Greek astronomer Ptolemy in the 2nd century. Corvus is most noted by four bright stars; often called the Sail, however it contains 11 stars in total. An interesting fact about Corvus, is that it is home to the Antennae Galaxies. These galaxies are currently colliding with one another, forming a heart with two long tails. These two give muggle scientists a possible idea of what will happen to our own galaxy when it some day collides with Andromeda.…

    Eridanus Obligation

I have chosen the Eridanus constellation. I chose this constellation because I did a project on this constellation in muggle school a few years back. Eridanus is a river constellation. It is in the southern hemisphere. It is Greek for the Po river located in Italy. This is questionable because in ancient times, Eridanus was thought to be the Nile river, since it was so special. It's the 6th largest constellation we can see from Earth. The main star of this constellation is Archernar, also known as the "end of the river" because it is at the bottom end of Eridanus. This star is the 9th brightest star in the night sky and is also the flattest known star because it spins so fast.…

Cancer is a dull white constellation. It contains two stars with known planets and in the center of Cancer is Praesepe. Praesepe is one of the nearest open clusters to Earth and is a popular site for new astronomers. Cancer is very difficult to spot with the naked eye, but appears best in March (early spring) at 9 P.M. when looking from the Northern Hemisphere. It is still visible from December to June, but is harder to see.…

The Orion constellation is something that has always appealed to my imagination. The constellation is visible with the naked eye and can be seen by everyone in the world, wherever they are. Ancient cultures mention it in their writings or even in the paintings in their caves, so the constellation has been up there in the night sky for a little infinity, as a silent watcher over the human race while we live and die at a speed that the heavens only experience as mere seconds. Orion's symbol is that of a hunter and it contains three bright stars that people refer to as the hunter's belt, or Orion's belt. When we go over to some finer instruments than the human eye, one can find Orion's Nebula south to Orion's belt.…
