Cancer: The Northern Gate Of The Sun
Cancer is a dull white constellation. It contains two stars with known planets and in the center of Cancer is Praesepe. Praesepe is one of the nearest open clusters to Earth and is a popular site for new astronomers. Cancer is very difficult to spot with the naked eye, but appears best in March (early spring) at 9 P.M. when looking from the Northern Hemisphere. It is still visible from December to June, but is harder to see.
Cancer was once said to contain the Akkadian Sun of the South, probably because its placement in the summer solstice was very isolated. Then, it was connected to the fourth month Duzu (June-July in modern calendar) and was named the Northern Gate of The Sun.
