For those who do not understand the pros and cons of social media and social network as well the effect of the social media and the networks lifestyle we Americans, have adopt into our lives since the years of 2000 till now in our modern would today. Social networking is use of Web site to communicate with other members of the site, by posting messages. But Social media refers to the means of interactions among people were they share and exchange information and ideas in virtual communities and networks. We all see that having a social media and social network is a great thing but we often forget it can be used as a weapon for cyber bullying.
Social networking sites are known to spread information faster than any other media. Traditional media news reporters and editors use sites like Facebook and Twitter to link in for stories. Social networking sites are now the top news source for Americans. But sometimes Social media is notorious to allow the spread of unreliable and incorrect material. For example on Sep. 5, 2012 false rumors of fires and caravans of gunmen in a Mexico City spread all over Twitter and Facebook caused panic, that flooded the local police department with over 3,000 phone calls, and temporarily closed schools.(http://socialnetworking.procon.org/)
It is well-known that Colleges and universities use social media to recruit and keep students. 87% of this Colleges and universities are known to use Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube to recruit students. These tools had increase student retention. These Social networking sites are also being used to give students an inside information on the colleges and universities before they decide to go.
