The perception of Beauty

Intro: First of all let us talk about your own definition of “being Beautiful”

I can guess that your definition of being Beautiful is somebody that is natural, wears no make-up and not ashamed of themselves. So, some think that make up is just a mask that hides all of their imperfections away.

My definition of being beautiful is not just about the Exterior look and it’s definitely more than that. When a woman is confident, obviously their beauty shines. I believe that a person can be pretty and at the same time Beautiful.

(Story) Military: A beautiful true love story

One day, a young guy and a young girl fell in love.

But the guy came from a poor family. The girl’s parents weren’t too happy.

So the young man decided not only to court the girl but to court her parents as well. In time, the parents saw that he was a good man and was worthy of their daughter’s hand.

But there was another problem: The man was a soldier. Soon, war broke out and he was being sent overseas for a year. The week before he left, the man knelt on his knee and asked his lady love, “Will you marry me?” She wiped a tear, said yes, and they were engaged. They agreed that when he got back in one year, they would get married.

But tragedy struck. A few days after he left, the girl had a major vehicular accident. It was a head-on collision.

When she woke up in the hospital, she saw her father and mother crying. Immediately, she knew there was something wrong.

She later found out that she suffered brain injury. The part of her brain that controlled her face muscles was damaged. Her once lovely face was now disfigured. She cried as she saw herself in the mirror. “Yesterday, I was beautiful. Today, I’m a monster.” Her body was also covered with so many ugly wounds.

Right there and then, she decided to release her fiancé from their promise. She knew he wouldn’t want her anymore. She would forget about him and never see him again.

For one year, the soldier wrote many letters—but she wouldn’t answer. He phoned her many times but she wouldn’t return her calls.

But after one year, the mother walked into her room and announced, “He’s back from the war.”

The girl shouted, “No! Please don’t tell him about me. Don’t tell him I’m here!”

The mother said, “He’s getting married,” and handed her a wedding invitation.

The girl’s heart sank. She knew she still loved him—but she had to forget him now.

With great sadness, she opened the wedding invitation.

And then she saw her name on it!

Confused, she asked, “What is this?”

That was when the young man entered her room with a bouquet of flowers. He knelt beside her and asked, “Will you marry me?”

The girl covered her face with her hands and said, “I’m ugly!”

The man said, “Without your permission, your mother sent me your photos. When I saw your photos, I realized that nothing has changed. You’re still the person I fell in love. You’re still as beautiful as ever. Because I love you!”

Extro: Is beauty truly in the eyes of the beholder or are some looks beautiful across the board?

Let’s remember that Make up can make a person “prettier” but definitely not beautiful. But for someone to be Beautiful, this person will have a beautiful soul in terms of seeing the best in everything and the best in everyone. It’s not just in a person but also in a situation. That certain person sees an opportunity for him/her to overcome an obstacle and be stronger in general.

“True beauty radiates not from outer cosmetics, but from the simple joy of making a difference for those that need your voice, passion, and time without expecting or wanting anything in return...”
― Deborah Barnes

In the topic of make-up, let’s talk about what we are given by God. From the body, eyes, nose, mouth, hand, legs and everything. We must be grateful of what we are given, But what is make-up for? It is obviously to enhance the parts that we are given. Keep in mind that, Make-up is an art that evolves and a part of Fashion and of course, It is unpredictable. And at the same time, Make-up can express more of who you are. So my question, Why do some people get bothered on it too much? even though they are putting a little or even a lot of make-up in their face. Why do we stick our label and judge them in the first place, then? Do they really feel better by stamping upon their confidence?

Beauty will surely fade, but your soul will be with you forever.

We will always be judged throughout our life but we should never let it affect us. We should live our life to the max since as they say “We only live once” and we must live the best out of it. You are Beautiful. Nobody can take this fact away from you.

The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mode but the true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It is the caring that she lovingly gives the passion that she shows. The beauty of a woman grows with the passing years. - Aishwarya Rai

"Okay. Thank you," I said. "Anytime. Love you," she said. "Love you too. Bye," I responded as I hung up. I unlocked the door and opened it. When I stepped out I noticed Val was standing in front of the door. "Why are you up," I asked. "You never bring you phone to the bathroom and when you do it freaks me out," he said. "Okay?" I said. He looked me in the eyes for a second and the said," do you really not want to get married?" "I...I don't know," I said. "Well it's either all in or all out. I'm not going to be in a relationship where your not 100% committed," he said. "Val," I said as tears formed in my eyes," just give me some time to think please." "No Jen if you aren't going to be committed, how will I know if you'll even show up for the wedding?" He said angrily. "You know what if you don't give me any choice in this, we're through," I said. "Here's your stupid ring. Now get your stuff and get out," I screamed throwing my ring at him. He went into my room and packed up all his stuff and walked out, slamming the door behind him. When I heard the door close, I knew it was over. I fell down and sobbed. A few seconds later I felt someone come hug me. I looked up to see Addison. I fell on her and cried…

Everyone has their own opinions on what beauty consists of. It is in cliché expression “beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” This means beauty can come from within a person’s soul or from the outside of looking at woman’s body. As it just happened, saying the word “beauty” on most occasions comes hand in hand with the word woman. In the story “A Woman’s Beauty: Put – Down or Power Source” by Susan Sontag. Sontag states; “To be called beautiful is thought to name something essential to women’s character and concerns. (In contrast to men whose essence is to be strong or effective, or competent.)” (Sontag.488.1) The word beautiful may not seem synonymous with men in 2015 but handsome is, as the word “handsome” feels more masculine.…

We live in a society that is saturated with a concept of physical attractiveness that spills into our newspapers, magazines, TV, movies and into our minds. From childhood, we have seen images of idealized men and women. We may convince ourselves that they are more attractive, fit, and somehow better than we are. Body weight, in particular, is one of the most twisted issues of our day, with women striving to be as gaunt as the women seen on TV or in the movies. We are regularly bombarded with a belief that, in order to be happy, we must be attractive. In order to achieve an “attractive” figure many young women seek out plastic surgery or others, in their quest to become thin, end up suffering from eating disorders…
