The Parent Trap Analysis
The article “The Parent Trap” by Judith Rich Harris addresses the debate over nature vs nurture. The nature vs nurture debate seeks to understand how someone develops things such as personality, behaviors, and intelligence. Nature is the belief that hereditary traits found in our genes makes us who we are and nurture being the way parents raise their kids. Nurture is the belief that the way our parents raise us is what determines who we become. Almost all the information that goes into making us human has to be acquired in the nurturing of the child like how the child is talked to, what they hear, what they see and what type of emotional relationship the child has with the parents. The structure of the brain and the structure of the personality are being organized and designed by the information that is coming in from the environment Without challenge, experience, love, being held, the child wouldn’t become human. A good example of what scientist researching this debate would ask is whether a person’s optimistic attitude was formed as a result of the genes they inherited from their optimistic parents or by being surrounded by optimistic people during their development. The child’s peers and genes play A major role in a child’s life. The peers can influence a child to play a video game and depending on what type of game whether it’s a child friendly educational game or a not so child friendly game like grand theft auto that can change a child’s perspective. I was raised in a very Asian oriented home mainly by my mother because my father was going to work in Alaska most of the time. My mother’s parenting style was a very harsh authoritarian which I reacted to by being rebellious and skipping
