The Notebook Movie Vs Book
The film The Notebook, written by Nicholas Sparks is a romantic novel that was turned into a film in 2004. Even though the novel and the movie have different endings, the movie was filled with romance, hard times, and fate. The story of two young lovers from two different backgrounds. In 1940 Noah and Allie meet at a carnival and Noah is immediately smitten. After turning him down constantly their friends lure them together. Noah and Allie spend the summer together, for Allie the summer was filled with fun times, giggles, and bike rides. This was different then the summers she was used to, it was a carefree time before she was to go off to school. For Noah it was pure love, and as the summer progressed he realized that he would never fit into her world. Allie's parents were against the two having a relationship, and once the summer was over Allie was taken away and sent to complete her education. Allie attends college and volunteers as a nurses aid. Allie meets a wounded soldier named Lon, a wealthy well connected young lawyer. The two become involved and eventually become …show more content…
Noah puts all his time and money into restoring the plantation and trying to forget about Allie. During a trip into the city Noah sees Allie and Lon together, and is devastated. Allie sees a picture of Noah in a newspaper story focusing on his refurbishing the plantation. Seeing the picture and reading the story makes Allie think of how things could have been if she had continued her relationship with Noah. Confused about her feelings, Allie takes a weekend away to sort out her feelings and to make sure she is making the right decision by marrying Lon.     The Notebook is a movie in which the main character Allie has Alzheimer's disease. Alzheimer's disease is marked by forgetting and repeating things, getting lost and confused, difficulties recognizing persons and objects. Symptoms usually appear after age sixty. Alzheimer's disease is not a normal part of aging and the cause is yet unknown. Alzheimer's disease is the fourth leading cause of death among adults and at present there is no known cure. The story begins in a nursing home where Allie and Noah (Allie's husband) stay. Allie needs to be there for care, but Noah doesn't. He stays to help care for her. He reads to her from a notebook about their life together. He hopes this will help her remember him, because her disease has progressed so that she doesn't remember him or her children. Allie believes that Noah's name is Duke; he tells her that because of the confusion which Alzheimer's disease causes she believes that this is a story about another couple. Noah reads that he fell in love with Allie at first site, but her parents say he is not good enough for her. Her family leaves town, and she starts college and he goes off to war. He writes to her every day for a year, but her parents keep the letters. She gets engaged, he works on a plantation house and fixes it up the way Allie wanted it. He hopes she will come back to him. She sees his picture in the paper with the house and decides to go see him before she gets married. They find the are still in love. Allie is torn between here fiancé and Noah. Allie decides to stay with Noah. While Noah is reading the story, she says she thinks she's heard this story before.
