The Lost Ark Critique
This year, the grade 5 and 6 classes performed some of Steven Spielberg’s films: Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, ET (The Extraterrestrial), Hook, and Jurassic Park. Like last years play, it was like an interview, and instead of E-Talk, it was based on Inside The Actor’s Studio, where the actors talk about their roles in their movie. Fun from the beginning to the end, these young actors are incredibly talented, and really brought their characters to life.

Raiders of the Lost Ark was quite possibly the most dry play out of all the others. The plot was very confusing, all they showed were scenes from the “original take”. These scenes were made up, at least make them humorous. The only humourous scene was when the students in

Hook was a significantly shorter play than the others, but it was very good. The play had constant action, and Michelle as Captain Hook was a perfect fit, because she put a lot of feeling into her character and tried to be him.

Jurassic Park really had no plot. In the beginning, there were a few miners talking about how they would like to share fossils with the world, and near the middle, there is a dinosaur viewing tour which includes the infamous scene when the dinosaur eats the man in the washroom. Other than that it was just dancing. The first dancing act, really made no sense, as it was just everyone in black doing their own thing. The second dancing act was when the dinosaurs were just going wild on the stage. The only part I enjoyed is when they re-created the CinemaSins video about it.

My favourite out of all the plays was ET. The acting was phenomenal compared to the other plays and overall, it was just much better scripted. The only improvements I would suggest are to make the inspectors stop bickering so much about how once, one of them led all of them into a cow field by accident. My words of advice for Raiders of the Lost Ark is to make the play just more interesting by not using “bottom of the barrel” quality humour, put SOME action into

Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark was a very action-packed movie with the main character really not accomplishing his goal. The whole theme and the whole central idea of the film was that sometimes in life things are just meant to not be disturbed to be in your life. Indiana wanted that ark, he tried and risked his life to do as much as he could to get that ark. Only thing was that he was fighting against another archaeologist who also wanted it. With all the problems that it caused, none of them got to keep the ark, because it wasn’t meant to be kept. Way too many problems occur if you do attempt, which is what the movie demonstrated.…

Many comparisons come from the Old Testament in the story of Noah’s Ark, both the Bibical religon and The Samerion religon delt with a great flood. In both stories that the “sins” of man have angered their gods and so the gods will punish the human race. They both had warning this was going to happen, alon with specific instructions on how to spare themselves along with carrying out the certain wishes of the gods. Noah had instrucions, as Gilgamish did. Noahs instructions were “Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch. And this is the fashion which thou salt make it of: The length of the ark should be three hndred cubits, the breadh of it fifty cubits and the height of it thirty cubits. A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thouh finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the inside therof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it.” Genesis 14-16. (6) Gilgamesh was instructed: “O man of shuruppak, son of Ubartutu: Tear down the house and build a boat! The boat which you are to build, its dimensions must measure equal to each other: its length must correspond to its width. Roof it over like the Apsu.” Tablet XI 24 and 28-30. They both followed the rules just as they were told, didn’t leave one detail out. It is obvious they…

Though I squirmed more than I care to admit because CRAWLY THINGS... a part of me has to admit that I did kinda, sorta like the devil-could-care bombast of Kong: Skull Island. In some ways, it's a classic old cinematic monster movie, all gussied up for a 2017 audience. In other ways, this thing is just bonkers - a bizarre, strange-tasting goulash of 1970's war cinema with obtuse and empty rhetoric, campy acting, odd moments of humor, rather jarring violence, and actors sputtering off in all different directions.…

    Noahs Ark and Gilgamesh

The Epic of Gilgamesh Flood Story and the Noah’s Ark story from the Bible are similar in many ways. They are similar in the sense that they both got rid of their houses and all of their belongings. Noah received his message from God to start building the boat while Gilgamesh received his message in a dream. But in the story of Noah’s Ark, Noah was to build the boat to exact measurements which were 300 cubits for its length, 50 cubits for its width, and 30 cubits for its height. Where in the Epic of the Gilgamesh it was to be built “shall have her dimensions in proportion, Her width and length in harmony.” The story never tells how big the boat was for all living seeds. So as a reader we can picture Noah’s massive boat where we cannot do the same for Gilgamesh’s boat They were both were to build enormous boats that would be able to hold all forms of life. In the Epic of Gilgamesh Flood Story, Gilgamesh fills his boat with all forms of life along with silver and gold. Whereas Noah built the boat only to fit all animals and his family. The Epic of Gilgamesh fought through only six days and seven nights where Noah fought through forty days and forty nights. But we do know the Bible uses the number 40 as a way of saying a long period of time. Both Gilgamesh and Noah released a Raven and a Dove but Noah released 3 doves while Gilgamesh only released a swallow after the release of other two birds. The Gilgamesh Epic has close parallels with the account of Noah’s Flood. Its close similarities are due to its closeness to the real event. However, there are major differences as well. Everything in the Epic, from the polytheism to the absurd cubical ark, as well as the worldwide flood legends, show me that the Genesis account is the original, while the Gilgamesh Epic is a distortion.…

The theme of “Raiders of the Lost Ark” is their use of plot. This is because the story shows us that taking chances and being adventurous with life helps you discover new and exciting things. The thing that the filmmakers are trying to tell us is to go out and experience these new things so that you can make the most out of life like Indiana Jones but not to be too reckless like the people that opened the ark and payed the price for it. This lesson is successful because it’s demonstrating the excitement of exploring the world in search of new finds that are interesting and could benefit the world. If I were the director of this film however I wouldn’t have left a kind of cliffhanger at the end of the film that left some unanswered questions…

The setting was good and I have to admit the actors were outstanding! Every character was extremely well played with a good batch of confidence. Made me feel like they really had been through all of it. Gregory Burke has made an informative, entertaining and provoking play not to forget. Al parts in equal measure. Fantastic. Above all, the scene I enjoyed the most, was the one where Cammy practically gets changed. The viewer gets taken in the hand and brought through a whole lot of previous wars. That was truthfully amazing scenery work.…

At one point in high school, my trigonometry teacher played Stand and Deliver to inspire us as we worked towards our own AP exam. To see Jaime Escalante take personal stake in his students academically and emotionally was exactly what I needed to discover what I will be during for the rest of my life: working to inspire passion, curiosity, and excellence in my students. But the question is: how do I pursue this outside of Hollywood fantasies? I believe these goals can be achieved through four objectives: by practicing radical empathy every day, by cultivating agents of social change, by encouraging agency in disenfranchised students, and by providing a nurturing space in which students can grow. Radical empathy is the very foundation of theatre.…

Almost every culture has some story explaining a worldwide flood that happened thousands of years ago. These stories have remarkable similarities between them but have extreme differences as well. The similarities include God, or the god’s flooding the earth to put an end to corruption, and in each story at least one person was saved in order to restore mankind. The differences include, what time period the flood occurred, how long the survivors were at sea, and where they came to rest when the rain ceased. Christianity, Hinduism and the study of the Greek god’s all depict undeniable differences in their philosophies of the world flood. Christianity’s story is Noah’s Ark, Hinduism’s is…

The actors themselves are quite competent are their acting and the overall movie is well done. Sean Pertwee's Macbeth was the downfall of the film. Because the interpretation of Macbeth was in such a different environment, Pertwee's Macbeth seemed too one dimensional, without range of emotion and pitch. Much of the "intensity" required by Macbeth was just non existent. Overall though the film was an good film with a creative adaption. The adaptation should have been more well thought out but other than that, it should receive a…

Despite the simplicity of the film I still enjoyed it even with the weak acting. The beautiful landscapes also made the film visually attractive which always enhances a film. Some of the shots where the characters were driving by the farm in evening are great examples of this. I would have to say that the visuals in this film are the highlight. A lot of lighting in the night scenes also looked very nice. The greatest use of light was the scene in which the helicopter circled the house shining its searchlight into the windows.…

Jurassic Park. When this film came out, people went nuts! Not only did it have groundbreaking CJI effects and won several Oscars, but it had action-packed suspense, a sense of awe and wonder, and just seemed gigantic. So when Jurassic World was released recently, you can bet that I sat down to relive all of the awesome memories from the movie that started it all. And how did it hold up? It was awesome! … But maybe not as awesome as I remember. Look, I’m not saying it’s a bad movie, far from it! If anything, it’s held up extraordinarily well. I’d still give it an A, but in hindsight maybe more of an A-. I’m just saying that while we were so blown away by how huge it was, we might have overlooked some problems that we either didn’t see or chose…

The movie is packed with the right doses of action, adventure, and comedy. The movie is definitely, not in any way, boring. It is the kind of movie where you would really be focused on and where you wouldn’t want to lose sight of. The story is not purely fictional. And that’s what I love about this movie, about its book. It does not just give entertainment; it also gives knowledge and understanding to people. It also is one way for people to remember and give importance to history.…
