The Importance Of The FFA
Learning to do, Doing to learn, Living to serve. This is the FFA motto which

I have lived my life by for the last four years. FFA has taught me that winning is not the most important thing in life. The FFA has taught me life lessons on communication, teamwork, and citizenship.

Developing communication skills is a key part in the road to success. When I was freshman, our FFA attended a leadership camp which all the district Officers conduct. At these camps I sat in a room while they explain what life is all about. They explained the good things and the way you can make your life better. FFA has brought on a whole new chapter in my life of healthy choices. I participated in teamwork events where I depended on total strangers to pull together

As I am an active member of the Seneca East FFA chapter, I strive to live and work by the National FFA Organization’s motto: “Living to do, doing to learn, earning to live, living to serve.” I interpret this motto simply: with every new project, you must accomplish it with a purpose. When I engage in a community service project, I have the mindset to put my whole heart in it, making the most out of the experience. Through the values and ethics I have attained through FFA, I will continue to serve my community and world with my whole heart throughout my life. If I were selected to receive the Samsung American Legion Scholarship, I would use the money to further my education focusing in the subject of Agriculture. This scholarship would inspire…

Explaining things that people don't understand has always been a strong point in my time within the community. In sports, specifically volleyball, I am more experienced than most of the people in my grade. When someone is having trouble with a skill like hitting or passing I gladly help them and explain things in a way that is easy to understand. Another quality that I have, is the ability to effectively communicate with others. Not only am I able to communicate with people that I am helping, but also with leaders within this club. I can communicate clearly and professionally through; email, text, verbally, and on the phone. When I have a planned absence from a sport’s practice, I notify my coach at least twenty-four hours before the scheduled start time. My work ethic has always been a strong point within my years of schooling. I have never been tardy to a class or skipped class to do things that I think are more important. Working in groups or teams has always been something I am good at. Working with teams efficiently and effectively is very important, this is especially shown on sports teams, were at practice if one person is slacking off it's harder for…

Have open communications with everyone. Open communications encourage people to be forthright with their opinions and perspectives. Further, you eliminate fear and shyness by encouraging everyone to speak their minds. It is important that everyone in your group knows they can talk to you about any big obstacles they are facing, their opinions or questions. Being approachable is a very basic way to apply leadership skills (Moutria, 2008).…

FFA develops competent and assertive agricultural leadership. Premier leadership can be obtained through many activities hosted by the FFA. One way in particular, is by attending one of the leadership and growth conferences. During these conferences members go to workshops where they learn how to become better leaders, to make a difference, and to be successful throughout life. These are very fun and beneficial conferences that all members should take advantage of. FFA members are more likely to be employed than the average high school student (National FFA Organization 4). When local FFA advisor, Matt Petrowitz, was asked what FFA meant to him, he said, “FFA to me means an organization where everyone belongs and is about leadership and tradition” (Petrowitz). He is proof that premier leadership is gained through FFA…

Waking up at five a.m. to go to a contest or even to travel is not what most teenagers would want to do on a Saturday morning. There are a few times when being in the FFA is not always smooth sailing. Waking up to put on the blue jacket and official dress is not what I pictured doing for the next 3 months. Wanting to run for state office, I soon found out that it was sometimes necessary to do. My decision to run for state officer in FFA has been caused through many things, the present officers and my advisors encouraging me, it being a great way to develop my leadership skills, and my passion for FFA.…
