The Importance Of Recess In Middle School
Remember the good old days? When you had that very precious valued free time, known as recess. Well it's gone now right? But should it be? I myself, being in 8 grade, still in middle school, wonder, why don't we have recess? At this age feel that we need it more than anyone! Recess if fun, it is great and offers student a break from all the stress of their classes. I want recess back. Even if it is only for 15 minutes. Recess time will provide a very helpful benefit to middle school students. Research indicates that learning and memory actually improve when learning is spaced out rather than presented all at once.The obesity rate for teens has tripled. This reason, also called the spacing effect stated that long term memory is promoted by distributed learning.”There is a body of research that suggests that spacing learning over time helps people learn more quickly and remember better. It has been found to be effective in various domains, from sales training to language learning to medicine” says association for talent development. And with a recess break even if it is not physical, like playing chess, knitting,yoga, and walking and talking all make the brain more alert and welcoming to new information.
