The Importance Of Performance Enhancing Drugs In Sports

Introduction
Sports has always been an inaugural part of Australian culture, but in recent the landscape has changed due to developments in the law, technology and the most prevalent performance enhancing drugs. Due to this current accelerated advancement in technology, it is becoming more and more difficult to detect performance enhancing drugs as athletes have begun to find more effective methods in masking these drugs consequently making it easier to cheat. This essay will outline the law behind performance enhancing drugs and concern they possess; investigate perspective from the public and professionals and evaluate the law and determine ways to improve the current situation. By the end of the essay it should be clear that the rules regarding drugs in sports should not be changed.

Knowledge
The advancement in technology not only bought along with it improvements to drugs in sports but the laws behind drugs began to changed too. In Australia, the organization responsible for dealing with drug related incidents in sports are known as ASADA also referred to as Australia’s national anti-doping organization. This organization was established in 2006 by the Australian Government. On one hand there are individuals who believe drugs ruin sports and then you have others who don’t agree with this statement. Firstly, Ian Steadman stated that “PEDS make sports more interesting to spectators, therefore, bringing in more revenue as more people want to watch” he later went on to elaborate stating that “As athletes hit their physical wall, audiences begin to gradually loss the initial shock factor”.
