The Importance Of Assault Crimes In The United States
Cohen and Felson believe that the reason the United States had an increase of offences since World War II, was that there was a major shift of routine activities. Many people have stay away from their homes and now their homes have become more suitable for motivated offenders to commit burglaries. Since more people are spending their time going to work or school during the day, more the same people are prone for motivated offenders to rob their stuff, which is why robberies and assault crimes have risen. Cohen and Felson also explained that most offenders in property crimes are likely to take any items that are expensive, durable, and portable like electronic devices or cars.

Many believe that the degree of property crime is determined by various factors including per capita income for each state, percentage of public aid recipients, high school dropout rates and many more. This project seeks to provide evidence for or against some of these common perceptions about property crime. Specifically it seeks to answer the questions: are crime rates higher in urban than rural areas? Does unemployment or education level contribute to property crime rates? Other independent variables that will be studied include public aid for families with children, population density, and average precipitation in the major city in each state.…

    c. How can one explain the trend of Property Crimes? -The rate of property crimes was on an increasing trend from the 1960s to the 1990s, and then it started to drop. This is because, in the 1990s, most property owners realized the importance of putting up security measures to keep away criminal offenders; this helped to reduce the rates of property crimes reported to the police. Additionally, huge cities adopted tougher law enforcement practices, which deterred criminal activities. d. Offer an explanation for why Robbery declined from 1960-2012.…

This is an easier crime in which to establish a strategic plan that would put an end to such crimes. There are four types of crimes that are classified as a property crime, they are burglary, theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson. Property crimes involve the taking of money or property and are high volume crimes with the target often being cash, electronics, such as televisions, power tools, cameras, and jewelry. According to the statistics from the F.B.I’s Preliminary Semiannual Uniform Crime Report, January - June of 2012, “The number of violent crimes reported by law enforcement for the first six months of 2012 increased 1.9 % over the figures from the same time period in 2011. Property crimes rose 1.5%.” To further break down this figure, there was a 1.9% increase in larceny-theft crimes, 1.7% increase for motor vehicle theft, and 0.1% increase for burglary. On 06-05-2017 at approximately 1637 hrs, I was dispatched to 105 E. 4th Avenue for report of a disturbance taking place. Upon arrival, I made contact with 2 complainants, identified as Ashley Saucedo (TX-DL # 23686268), Lois Wilson (TX-DL # 15802552). During my investigation the following events occurred. Ashley advised, her sister Amber had come over to the residence and began to fight with her, by punching her several times while on the floor. She mentioned that her aunt Wilson was able to separate the two by pulling the two apart during the altercation. In the event Ashley mentioned she was struck in the left eye, I could barely see any bruising at the time. Wilson mentioned her right arm was hurting because she was thrown against the wall…

The two metropolitan areas I have decided to do my research paper on are Cincinnati, Ohio and Dallas, Texas. I choose Cincinnati because it is one of the bigger cities where I live. I choose Dallas because there seems to be a big difference in crime rates compared to Cincinnati. In this paper I will be comparing the burglary rate between these two cities. I will identify the number of burglaries reported to the police in each area and also explain which area had more reported burglaries as well as what were the rates of the crimes in each area. I will also explain whether the rates have changed at all and look into what factors that might be involved that might explain the difference in the burglary rates.…

The theory we chose to discuss in this discussion post is the Routine Activities and Lifestyles Theory. According to Daigle, this theory came about in the 1970’s and was developed by Lawrence Cohen and Marcus Felson (Daigle, 20). According to the textbook, this theory is “a person’s routine activities and lifestyle place them at risk of being victimized. The risk is higher when there are motivated offenders, little to none capable guardianship, and a suitable target” (Daigle, 602). There are obvious lifestyle choices that can lead to victimization. Some of these choices include walking alone at night, being in known dangerous areas, and/or choosing a lifestyle with a pattern.…

The proliferations of bars in many communities has lead to an increase in assaults in and around bars, primarily occurring on weekend nights, and are usually alcohol related. The majority of assaults occur in a small number of places and not all assaults involve a simple fistfight with a clear beginning and end. Some assaults flare up over time, consist of different incidents and some involve participants alternating roles of aggressor and peacemaker. While some involve low levels of aggression, others involve more severe violence. And can draw additional people in to the incident. Those who fight in bars usually are not deterred to do so by negative consequences. In addition many…

    Hate Crimes in America

How serious should the threat of a hate crime be taken? According to Ellis Cose, the African American author of Ignore the Noose Makers, to pay too much attention to the idiocy of those who hang nooses simply to intimidate their black target, “is to grant them an importance they do not deserve.” Nooses have a horrific history associated with them. They are known to be used in lynching (punishing people for crimes by private citizens without trial, whether they are guilty or not), of which three quarters of the cases in American history were against blacks. George Curry, another African American author of Calling Nooses What They Are – Terrorism, feels strongly that these threats are not to be taken lightly, and with that attitude people will not be able to “bridge the racial divide.” The American people are protected from hate crimes and verbal threats, and the hanging of a noose is a threat in itself of which their victims deserve protection from.…
