First and foremost, there are many similarities and differences between the two stories. My first example is when Ransom died in the novel. In the movie, they portray Ransom as about to be thrown over, although they never end up doing it. He then fights against Davie and Alan, and yet still never seems to die. In the book, he is killed by Mr. Shuan, the cause being that he brought him a dirty pannikin. Another example when Alexander dies. Even though the novel and movie both indicate Alexander dying, they died in very different ways. Another difference between the two is when they go visit Cluny and Alan gambles. Both contain this scene, although it goes down very differently. In this scene in the movie, it shows Alan approaching Davie when he is asleep, rather than the book where it claims Davie was sick. And lastly, one similarity is when Davie and Alan approach the village of James of Glen, and find that the Long Mile Gang is after them and the village is going to be ransacked. I feel…

However, the novels still teach some valuable lessons, even if it is executed differently. Both novels teach that love is complicated and difficult to understand. Katniss eventually falls in love with Peeta, after faking it for so long. The Hunger Games deals with a lot of peer pressure and doing what others say to accomplish something. On the other hand, Divergent focuses more on following one’s beliefs and heart. Self control is also prominent in both novels.
