Comparing Davie And The Kidnapped Novel
“Davie lad, I love ye like a brother,” Alan Breck states to David Balfour in the Kidnapped novel.
I am writing this to show that the movie and the novel were very different. In the book it opens with Davie’s father, Alexander, already dead. In the movie, it opens with Davie’s father still alive, just caught under a branch. Overall, I feel that the Kidnapped novel was better than the movie in every way.
First and foremost, there are many similarities and differences between the two stories. My first example is when Ransom died in the novel. In the movie, they portray Ransom as about to be thrown over, although they never end up doing it. He then fights against Davie and Alan, and yet still never seems to die. In the book, he is killed by Mr. Shuan, the cause being that he brought him a dirty pannikin. Another example when Alexander dies. Even though the novel and movie both indicate Alexander dying, they died in very different ways. Another difference between the two is when they go visit Cluny and Alan gambles. Both contain this scene, although it goes down very differently. In this scene in the movie, it shows Alan approaching Davie when he is asleep, rather than the book where it claims Davie was sick. And lastly, one similarity is when Davie and Alan approach the village of James of Glen, and find that the Long Mile Gang is after them and the village is going to be ransacked. I feel

The novel was far more detailed and the eloquence of the author came into play, rather than the movie where it is different lines. So, hopefully you now have a deeper understanding of the difference between the book and the movie, and fully understand the similarities and differences between the two. After a deep analysis, the book still appears better than it’s movie counterpart, just like most other book/movie

There was more detail in the film than the book. Most books have a lot of detail. Especially conversations and emotions. They explain how the character feels and explain what the setting is like. In the film, it also had much detail. It shows most of how the character(s) gets place to place. When reading a book, you use your imagination and in a film you can watch in. For instince, in the book, it didn't explain how Rainsford escaped from place to place. In a new chapter, he would be in a different area and it didn't describe what he did to get there. In the film, Rainsford tricked General Zaroff and got back to safety. It…

In this Novel the growth of David from a small boy to a courageous man is focused. David is a seventeen year old boy from Scotland with the nickname of “Davie.” David is a young boy who tragically lost his father and mother and who is now left alone with no parents. After being left alone, David becomes an orphan. David is then led into a house where his father lived in his childhood. David there meets his uncle Ebenezer ,“Is your father dead?” “I was so much surprised at this, that I could find no voice to answer, but stood staring” (Stevenson 23). Ebenezer first attempts to kill David and then kidnaps him. Uncle Ebenezer was cruel to David and treated him very harshly, David’s uncle strongly disliked David for coming into his life and interrupting him. Ebenezer is a very selfish uncle and envies David for being young and everything he does. In Kidnapped David for the first is exploring the world. Balfour is inexperienced and is frightened about never going out to the “real world.” David’s goal is running away from the torture of his uncle and not having experience of going out to the real world. David is blamed for a murder he did not commit, and his attempt is to escape from all his enemies, since he has become a victim of Captain of Hoseason and his Uncle Ebenezer. As David escapes he meets the other main character Alan Breck Stewart. They both come to meet each…

One thing in particular that the book does much better is making use of complex metaphors and themes, such as: the river for life, and oneness with nature, that string themselves together as you turn each page of the book, while in the movie the metaphors and symbolism are represented in a much different way through picture. In the book, both themes regarding the river are very vivid and clear, as they use strong imagery of nature to draw pictures in the minds of the readers. In the movie both themes are represented and referred to much less because of the lack of narration.…

To begin with the movie takes away the experience of the book as it skipped many important parts that were in the book. This change in the storyline altered the experience of the movie as the emotions you feel while reading the book are just not there in the movie. Some good examples of this could be the scene in the book were John narrowly escapes the mogadorians by jumping out the window and gliding to the next building. Without this scene the suspense in the movie is not there. Another major scene that the movie added was when Henri died early on in the movie instead of at the ending like in the book. I felt like this was not a good idea as you want the viewer to feel the same sadness as John but how is this possible if Henri dies too early. Also it felt like the movie took out more scenes than they added by doing this it made the whole story just feel rushed. Because of this there were many times in the movie that were hard to follow unless you read the…

A difference between the two is the way Lennie killed the pup. That is a difference because in the book when he killed the pup everything seemed more dramatic and then in the movie it seemed as though he was sad and felt bad but the feeling was not as strong as it was while reading the book. Another difference is how George killed Lennie. This was the major difference between the movie and the novella because Georges emotions were not high enough. In the story it mentioned how George was slowly and barely able to lift his arm up to kill Lennie but in the book he just immediately killed him with no hesitation and no emotions involved.…

The first reason why I liked the movie over the book is because. When I read books sometimes I have to watch a movie on the book to get a better understanding. If we take a test on the book I will need the movie to visualize in my head. It will be better to know how the movie went without trying to remember what the people said in the book.…
