The Greatest Challenge of Our Generation
I feel that the greatest challenge that my generation is faced with is being stuck in a time of environmental instability. Recently, we have been confronted with the crisis of global warming. In past generations, they have known the risks and effects of all the factories, and the car emissions, but they saw no immediate problem that they were confronted with. So they did not make many changes in their daily habits. Most recently, Al Gore had created the presentation, “An Inconvenient Truth”, to raise awareness about global warming, how far we are into it, and what we can do about. It is sad to find out how deadly and serious the effects of it are, and how the older generation left us to deal with this problem. The challenge in this is how to create effective steps to stopping this global crisis in its steps. This problem is nothing that can be confronted with an environmental organization, however an organization to that degree can raise serious awareness about this problem. My ideas coincide with most others. I believe that the first steps to helping with this problem, are those that have already been talked about. Raising awareness is the first step to helping this. With more people knowing about this issue, believing in it, and having a motivation to do something about it, will bring more ideas for solutions and begin a global warming awareness revolution. Like a domino effect, many others with follow these ideas, and change their daily routines to aid in stopping global warming. In these daily routines, one can be more efficient with electricity use, and own more efficient cars, and be more efficient with car use. The key word in this solution is efficient. Many do not realize how their daily activities can put a toll on our atmosphere. Many do not realize how this change in the atmosphere affects everything living in the earth’s habitats. If people just alter minor things, not leaving your car on when it is not needed, or burning Styrofoam in fires in the

So what challenges do we confront with the issue. Like I've started to express above. There are many challenges we confront when it comes too global warming. Above all, cost, perception, and strategies for a solution apply to the challenges that we see. It is going to have a great cost to cut emissions. Kyoto the largest assembly line of the top macroeconomic models average a cost of $180 billion annually. Lomborg suggests that this would defiantly not bankrupt the industrialized worlds but it is still a significant portion of money. It seems quite evident that our economy…

A former United States Senator, Joe Lieberman, had this to say about global warming: “Today, we can see with our own eyes what global warming is doing. In that context it becomes truly irresponsible, if not immoral, for us not to do something.” The President of the French Republic asserted that “The time is past when humankind thought it could selfishly draw on exhaustible resources. We know now the world is not a commodity.” It is clear that global warming may be man’s greatest challenge - however, it seems as though many are still denying its existence.…

Peter Singer suggests that this dilemma “forces us to think differently about our ethics”. World leaders of the past viewed our resources as immeasurable and the concept of running out of natural resources and polluting our environment did not help shape public opinion. Recent years have shown man's ignorance and the irreparable damage it can cause. CFC's have depleted the ozone layer, even leaving holes in some areas, and devastate many more lives with skin cancer. The shocking revelation of our dwindling supply of fossil fuels combined with skyrocketing prices supports innovating new ideas for energy. Scientists further expand this argument by evidence that industrialized nations that burn fossil fuels are the leading contributers to the exponential climate shift.. Today's technology links people from all walks of life together in ways never imagined. One must accept the view that we are all in this together in order to solve the problem of global warming.…

First, we have global warming, which is a problem that must be solved as soon as possible. Some ignorant people think that it won’t happen but we are actually living this situation right now, every single day. According to some NASA studies, since 1950, the average temperature has climbed 1.4Fahrenheit degrees around the world. As a consequence of this fact, an Arctic ice area, which was bigger than the United States, has melted this year! Another evidence of global warning is that the frequency and number of hurricanes and earthquakes around the world has increased the last years. The irony of all this is that even though we do realize what is happening; even though we know that we are destroying our planet, we are still polluting, wasting and damaging.…
