Abstract: Stylistics is a scientific study of style. It is a new branch of linguistics. Rhetoric is the art or science of the communication in words. In general, stylistics is a discipline that studies the ways in which language is used; it is a discipline that studies the styles of language in use. However, rhetoric is the scientific study of how language could be employed expressively and effectively in modern times. Studying stylistics and rhetoric is of great significance in expression and understanding of languages; in employing achievements in literary criticism and linguistics; in promoting and developing computer science and information technology; and in sharing heritage of human civilizations.

Today, it is commonly acknowledged that a language is not something homogeneous, something with a unified form. Rather, a language is a composite of various types and forms: there are many ‘sublanguages’ within a language, and there are different ways in which a language is used. Hence the fast spreading interest in the analysis of both non-literary languages on the part of linguists and the occurrence of stylistics as a particular discipline.

1.1 Definition of Stylistics
In order to give some idea of what stylistics is, it seems wise in the first place to briefly define the field. H.G. Widdowson provides a scholarly and commonly accepted definition: “By stylistics, I mean the study of literary discourse from a linguistic orientation and I shall take the view that what distinguishes stylistics from literary criticism on the one hand and linguistics on the other is that it is essentially a means of linking the two”. Invention in a structure is the first canon of rhetoric. This canon is the construction of a persuasive argument and provides logical justification to a claim. In addition, one of the concepts representing this canon is reasoning and rationale. For every advertisement, news report, etc, there’s always a purpose to why that specific message was published. Inside the Gentlemen's Quarterly magazine (GQ) of the February 2017 issue, published an advertisement for the new Toyota Corolla. Visually, a viewer can see the features of this advertisement that involves the vehicle. For example, the interior of the car includes a rear view camera and a clear perspective to what’s ahead by looking through the windshield. The reasoning for showing these features…

"The tone says life is fun. The undertone suggests life is a catastrophe. " How far do you agree with this model of comedy in relation for The Importance of Being Earnest?- Edward Braddock. The Importance of Being Earnest has been described in many ways, some believing that its dialogue is "wittily allusive and understated rather than downright comic" , whereas others believe it is simply a narrative driven by Wilde's deep roots in the Aestheticism movement. Despite the play being a comedy where the status quo remains when the curtain falls, the jovial and fun tones the play appears to have are paralleled by dark undertones- some more subtle than others.…

The categories that are used most in this speech are pathos, logos and aesthetic choices/stylistic choices. These three are the most important ones because they are the ones that backed up his warning and proved his point. Aesthetic choices/stylistic choices drilled the message into the listeners and made his speech stick with them for a long time while pathos made it a personal matter and logos made the decisions that would come from a speech at least seem rational.…

One important point of view upheld by the opposing side is that behavioral technologies have helped us fight crime over the years; however, it has also shown that more and more people are being profiled by these technologies. Now, since profiling is a behavioral and investigative tool that is intended to help investigators to accurately predict and profile the characteristics of unknown subjects, the Mosaic-2000 can be used as the perfect example to explain how these type behavioral technologies lead to negative profiling. For instance, the Mosaic-2000 described by the journalist Francis X. Clines (1999), in The New York Times, is “A computer program designed to identify students who might be prone to commit violent acts”; or how Kelly Patricia puts it “Rooting out the bad seeds,” (O’Meara, 2000), which means that they will hand-pick the violent students as if they…

Although important steps have been made in recent years to internationalize the discipline of rhetoric and composition (see, for example, recent edited volumes by Horner & Kopelson, 2014 and Martins, 2015), the systematic study of best practices in the teaching of writing at the postsecondary level remains, unfortunately, a largely American pursuit. One of many areas around the world where knowledge of the discipline of rhetoric and composition is limited is the Anglophone Caribbean. This is despite a decades-long tradition of teaching American-style college composition classes at Caribbean postsecondary institutions. Those studies that have analyzed the specific issues with teaching college composition to Anglophone Caribbean students — students…

The common view that a literary text is likely to be comprehended better if it is studied in parallel with stylistic analysis which emphasizes the crucial role of the linguistic features of the text contributes much to the development of literary criticism. M.A.K.Halliday is one of the text linguists who sees ‘grammar’ as a network of systems of relationships which account for all the semantically relevant choices in language, which is the standpoint of the stylistic analysis as well.…
