The Great Gatsby Habit 3 Analysis
Stephen Covey introduces habit 3, which is “Putting First Things First.” Covey stated that, “Habit 3 is the personal fruit, the practical fulfillment of Habits 1 and 2” (155). Habit 3 is about the actualization, the will to become principle-centered. Habit 3 is about management, it follows leadership. Which was mentioned in Habit 2. Habit 3 also mentions The Power of Independent Will. Which is one of the most important factor of Habit 3. Other factors of Habit 3 are Quadrant II and Time Management. First factor of Habit 3 “Put First Things First”, is Power of Independent Will. Along with the other Human Endowments, Independent Will is the fourth. It is the ability to create choices and to follow them through. We develop this will every day in our lives, we build upon it and strengthen it, which is measured by our integrity.

There are four types or generations of time management. First type is distinguished as notes and checklist, an effort to organize our many demands that require our attention. Second type is shown by calendars and appointment books. This reflects an aim to look in the future, look ahead. Last, the third type shows our current time management field. It is a combination of all the other generations and more. These two, together will effectively allow us to manage our time, be proactive, lead, and be principle-centered. There are many types of tools for self-management and to be in Quadrant II. These tools though, have important standards, 6 to be exact. They are coherence, balance, Quadrant II focus, a “People” dimension, flexibility, and portability. These tools are to help you manage yourself and to be more successful in our outcomes. This organizer will help us feel organized, motivated, balanced, success, how to interact with others, etc. To reach Quadrant II, managing and tracking yourself will help you think like a manager. Soon you’ll be able to think always in Quadrant
