Giving (verb): to freely transfer the possession of (something) to (someone); hand over to. When one gives to someone or does something special for someone, it is a win-win situation. In fact, the feeling of happiness is always mutual in those cases. No matter how big, small, concrete, or abstract the act of kindness is, it will go a long way nevertheless. The winter season - that is, the season for giving - is approaching, and it is a great time to “kick off” the amiable gestures for family and friends now. For me, personally, I would like to help cook a tasty dessert for my family to marvel over.…

“The future belongs to the discontented.” I agree with this quote because the future definitely does belong to the discontented. In my opinion, the discontented represents everyone. No one can truly ever stay content for long without wanting to better their current situation. Even the richest man in America, Bill Gates, still feels the need to change the future – his and the world’s. I think it is great that the future belongs to those who are dissatisfied, and I believe that it does because of many reasons such as human nature and the American Dream.…

I think that my attitude about gratitude is very important. Over the past couple weeks, I have been assingned to write about what I am grateful for or something good that has happened to me that day. I think that this has really truly strengthed my health in a lot of ways. I used to think that I wasn’t that wealthy. I used to think that everyone has more than me. I have had a talk about this with my parents and they have said that you should be so grateful for what you have. I have been thinking about this lately and its really got to me. I have read an article that there was a group of kids. Someone asked all of them to write down what they were thankful for each day. Some of the kids did it and some didn’t. it turns out that the ones who did it were the most happy. They were so happy and cheerful rather than the other kids who did not appreciate all that they had. They think that they should just be automatically given that stuff. If you think like that you will never be happy. I have learned from experience. When you are grateful for everything you are happy about everything. If you are happy about everything, then it can effect you entire health. Mentally and Socially. Just like we have gotten to write in a gratitude journal, that is practicing for many things. In my article, it says “people that have gratitude tend to be more creative, bounce back more quickly from adversity, have a stronger immune system, and have stronger social relationships than those who don’t practice gratitude. I think this totally true and I agree with it. In the end, being grateful makes you feel so amazing and happy.…

    A Complicated Kindness

I recently read a book called A Complicated Kindness, by Miriam Toews. The protagonist is a teenage girl named Nomi. Nomi is growing up trapped in a small Mennonite community called East Village in the middle of nowhere, in Canada. All her life Nomi was told what to believe, with heavy emphasis on the belief that living dutifully and by the word of God in this life would guarantee salvation in the next. In Nomi’s town, you were either good or bad. There was no in between, no room for individuality or mistakes. Those who went through their life there quietly, going to church every Sunday and working at the local chicken slaughtering plant after graduation, were considered to be on their way up. Those were the people who at the end of a long, uneventful life, would be greeted happily by Jesus and live forever in his kingdom of glory. Those who broke out of the mould were doomed. Since non-conformists were clearly speeding down the highway to hell anyways, they were excommunicated from the church and forced to either leave the community or live without recognition from even their own family.…

Imagine a world without color, pain, or feelings. It sounds terrible. The Giver is a book about a community that people in the community do not have to be worry about anything. In other words, they never experience the joy of life and success. Jonas’ community is a strict community to avoid negative emotions. However (TRANS), there are many things that citizens are not allowed to do by themselves. The purpose of this paragraph is to contrast the Jonas’ community to our community. First of all, in Jonas’ community everyone lives by the community’s rules. It means their food, their family, their decisions are chosen for them because they are under the community’s control. However, in our community people can make their own decisions and choose their favorite food to eat. Second, in Jonas’s community the Elders control the population. It means that kids are not raised in a house. They are raised in a center for a year and will be given to family, but (TRANS) the Elders are the ones to decide who can be assigned to care for children. However, in our community people have their own children and it does not matter how many children they want to have (INF). Another difference is that when they turn twelve, the children are given a job assignment and start training (GER) for their job, and after that, they work more till they become a responsible adult. By way of contrast, in our community people can start working (GER) whenever they want, and they might want to work (INF) less when they get older (COMP). In conclusion, we would realize that our decisions, emotions, and differences might make our life harder (COMP), so it would be great to be happy with the present life. Never make your life as same as (COMP) Jonas’ community because you are never going to feel the life. A world without color, pain, or feelings should be a destination you would never…

Out of all the things I own, I am most thankful of the things that made me who I am now. Last Thanksgiving, I lost my chance to give thanks to a special person of my life, and so I don’t want to loose my chance of giving thanks ever again. I appreciate all that happened from the start of my life till now. I am thankful of being born, thankful for being loved, thankful for being able to write this essay.... But out of all these things I’m thankful of, there are some that I think build my personality the most. Without these, I would not be who I am now. I’m glad of being who I am, and being able to appreciate being who I truely am. There are many others who cannot appreciate themselves and others. Luckily I’m not one of them, therefore, I am here to give thanks. This Thanksgiving, I am thankful for being alive and healthy, for my…

The governments of Chad and Cameroon, the World Bank, and a consortium of oil companies agreed on funding terms for the pipeline project, as well as on how the government of Chad would spend the proceeds from the transportation and sale of the oil, where the spending where to be 80% on health and education services, 15% on general governmental needs, and 5% on oil producing region. Their main emphasis was to ease poverty and to avoid oil curse which might lead to government corruption. The Chad royalties where to be deposited in an escrow account in Citibank the branch London. in 2005 Chad’s National Assembly voted to significantly modify the framework for spending oil revenues. This was seen as a breach of the lending agreement with the World Bank, and the World Bank suspended all new grants and loans to Chad. The consortium of oil firms is now caught in the middle. It has decided to withhold all revenues until Chad resolves its dispute with the World Bank. Rewards motivate employees by increasing job satisfaction, commitment, and productivity in the organization. Rewards have been shown to increase productivity by 20 to 30 percent. Award distributions should be situation-dependent, equitable, immediate, and should be targeted toward teams. A variety of reward types should be used because different people have a different value system. One study showed that when firms offered monetary and non-monetary rewards they had productivity increase 17 percent. A large study on management also found that 50 percent of middle managers do not believe pay is tied to performance. Healthcare leaders should be aware of the appropriate method of award distribution; healthcare is being run more like a business and the retention and increased productivity of the employees is critical toward…

Nowadays, people talk a lot about happiness; they even write tens and hundreds of books dealing with this concept from a philosophical perspective in order to find its relationship with daily life. Unfortunately, there are always controversies about the nature and origin of happiness: is it health, love, money, job, or success? In fact, happiness cannot be reached as a treasure such as gold or silver because it is more expensive than all that brings you wealth. In other words, happiness can be considered as a diamond in the depths of sea that needs a gifted diver who looks at life from a realistic corner with plenty of hope and enthusiasm.…
