The Giver Movie And Book Comparison Essay
Veronica Roth once said “If you actually succeed in creating a utopia, you've created a world without conflict, in which everything is perfect. And if there's no conflict, there are no stories worth telling - or reading.” Is an utopian society the way to go? In the book The Giver by Lois Lowry, the protagonist Jonas soon realized after becoming The Receiver that the Elders in his community have been hiding the truth of what could have been. There is more feeling and technology in the movie compared to the book The Giver.
The movie and the book The Giver have similarities, such as, the characters are all the same. Jonas is strong, courageous, and wants things to be back how they were generations back. The Giver is wise and also wants everything to be like the memories he holds. Jonas’s parents are clueless of what really is going on. Asher and Fiona are Jonas’s best friends. They are friendly and wants the best for their friend. Lily, who is Jonas’s sister is always happy, who enjoys the baby boy Gabriel who their family unit takes in.
Although it did have similarities, it has a lot of differences. A big difference was in the book Jonas, Gabriel, the Giver, Rosemary, and all the Receivers generations back have light pale eyes, while the rest are dark. Everyone seems to be perfectly okay with how things are because they don’t know any different. Everything would come falling down if someone figured out that all their life was just a lie. Just as Jonas in The Giver and Tris and Tobias in Divergent took action. They took a stand trying to make things right for the greater good. The Giver and Divergent are the same in many ways. The main characters in both fall in love with each other, they help each other out, and they soon figure out there is more to what they have grown up to
