The Freshman Pledge
The Freshman Pledge Rushing day is coming up, all the sororities are recruiting freshman to join them. Girls’ minds are filled with the rumors they have heard and the things on T.V., who wouldn’t want to be in one? But what most rushing freshman don’t know is that sororities are not as crazy as they seem. One does not just simply join a sorority, they are recruited. Recruitment is the biggest thing about the sorority; it is the decision for whether or not you can be “sister material.” Every girl is judged by the sororities from their personal standards and what they are trying to accomplish during school to the littlest thing about make-up. Recruitment weekend is upon us and most freshman girls don’t know what to expect. Day one of the recruitment weekend consisted of t-shirts and getting put into pi-chi groups, a group that is made to help recruitment more manageable that is led by a nonbiased sorority girl. Pi Chi means Panhellenic Counsellor. In your group you learn about which sorority is right for you. This day is important because you get to meet the sororities for the first time. During the group sessions with the sororities you learn what each one is about, what they do for you, what you do for them, and how to represent them. They strongly try to influence your decision to choose them over any other sorority that’s offered. Day two everyone was required to dress business casual. The sororities wanted to see how people would dress up because when they accept someone into the sorority that person is supposed to look presentable and represent the chapter they are a part of. Throughout the day everyone starts to get more comfortable around each other and start to meet more people, make more friends. The pi-chi groups start to talk more in depth about the sororities and what they are looking for so you can start to get a feel for the sorority and how each one is. At the end of the day the sororities start to weed out the people who aren’t sister
