I am writing on behalf of Ms. Folashade V. John, Candidate for Membership Intake for Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. – Lambda Psi Chapter. Understanding the importance of letters of recommendation, I am writing this letter to not only serve as a critical component of her packet, but also reveal that her qualifications, characteristics, and experiences have prepared her for membership in our grand sisterhood.
I have had the pleasure of mentoring Ms. John for four years and have observed Ms. John’s growth not only professionally, but also in her civic pursuits. Soror Mary McLeod Bethune once spoke of the ideal Delta girl, stating, “It is pleasing to a heartfelt depth to see her not as self-centered, not desirous of selfish power, not wanting the plaudits of people, not wanting glory – but with a purpose which directs her activities and all that she may control toward lifting somebody else.” The brilliant observation was made over 40 years ago, but it is still applicable to the women of Delta
Folashade’s spirit and essence is captured in Soror Bethune’s remarks. Folashade is not concerned with the fashionable aspects of sorority life; her concern rests in the duty that all women, especially Delta women, should share – one of making the world a better place for all people.
Ms. John is a highly intelligent, creative, driven, dependable and caring woman. She is a team player that exemplifies all the qualities and characteristics that would make her an outstanding addition to our beloved sisterhood. Within the contingency of women who desire invitations to cloak themselves in the crimson and cream, I see Folashade V.
