Therefore, this research aims to uncover the factors that motivate them into the UK for higher education in her Universities and colleges with the objectives which include; Examine the factors influencing West African Student; analyze the strategies adapted by UK Universities and Colleges to influencing student into Schooling in UK; investigate the role UK government plays in inflow of student into its Universities and Colleges, and to draw definitive conclusion from the findings.

Prior to the independence periods in the West African region, the West Africa students had been trooping into United Kingdom for study; it has also been argued that, International students have been coming to the UK for centuries. In the post war years their number increased slowly and steadily – and then very significantly – but in terms of the ‘UK experience’, each decade had very particular characteristics and features. http://www.ukcisa.org.uk this is not a surprise putting into consideration the colonial links between the United Kingdom and some African countries, especially West African. But the rate at which the students from the region are trooping into United Kingdom to study has been increasing in the recent years. According to a publication on International student numbers

This may also go into cultural deprivation where their cultures may differ but affects them in a large way as language can make it hard to mix the different cultures and ethnicities, which is where the ethnic groups come in and why there may be a difference in the grades, as statistics show that African students are more likely to underachieve than British students which leads on into the self fulfilling prophecy as some African students may feel that as they are being perceived in this way they may as well act like…

This article examines data collected from a group of people attending higher education and in particular focuses on the motivating factors behind their choice of degree. It investigates and highlights factors such as race and class by examining particular students, who, by tradition, would not usually have applied to university. By linking the data broadly to theories of meritocracy and habitus, the article aims to demonstrate that despite significant changes to the availability of higher education throughout our history, some groups remain significantly underrepresented.…

The similar significant effect of students migration in China and European country to the UK is the increasing number of students. According to the report from European Union (EU) after 2004, the A8 countries (from Eastern Europe who joined the EU in the largest single expansion since its creation in 1957) had a great number of increasing students inflow of A8 students to the UK annually (see figure 1). In the academic year of 2008/09 there were approximately 17,000 Higher education students who were domiciled in A8 countries. From this data, it is clear draws the conclusion that the annual students migration at A8 countries were increased. Over the long term, the effects of this immigration pause on the size of European community of education more small. In addition, Non-European country still send large students to the UK. At present, large numbers of overseas students are moving to Australia for better tertiary education. Overseas students can be defined as undergraduate students that come from Asia to Australia. Deborah Tranter Senior Project Officer: Equity University of South Australia Abstract: For many students from low socio-economic backgrounds, university is an alien and inaccessible notion, as far removed from them conceptually as it often is geographically. It is becoming increasingly difficult for students from the most disadvantaged regions of Australia to bridge the divide and gain admission to higher education. This paper will discuss a range of initiatives developed by the University of South Australia, in collaboration with the S. A. Education Department, to help increase the access of students from disadvantaged schools. These initiatives include: USANET: an outreach and access scheme for year 12 students from schools designated as disadvantaged by the Education Department. UniSA-PAL: a preparatory program coordinated and moderated by UniSA staff but taught to adult year 12 students by Education Department staff at five adult secondary colleges in Adelaide. Portfolio Entry: a trial alternative entry scheme for year 12 students (both continuing and adult reentry) from13 of the most educationally disadvantaged schools in the state University Orientation Program/peer mentoring: an initiative which combines a semester-length elective subject on peer mentoring for UniSA students with an ‘introduction to university’ option for year 11 students from the socio-economically disadvantaged northern suburbs of Adelaide. The paper will draw on research undertaken as part of my doctoral studies into the influence of the school environment on students’ aspirations to higher education as well as evaluations undertaken of the initiatives above and research undertaken elsewhere. Introduction The University of South Australia has a well-established commitment to equity and a national reputation for innovative practices in the area. In particular, the…

Nowadays with the growth of global economy, rising people are aware of the importance of education as well. As stated by Coughlan, there are a significant increasing number of students who are studying abroad in countries like UK where people think that they can receive high-quality education. Meanwhile, their study career in UK, although language probably will be a principal problem for international students to face, there are still lots of other different difficulties which they would have a hard time overcoming. They can be divided into four main aspects including emotional problems, cultural differences, social problems and study methods. In following paragraphs, they are going to be explained.…

The research hypothesis was that the location, teaching excellence and the facilities (both related to studies and extramural) provided by the university influence the decision of students in preferring University of Hertfordshire. The second hypothesis was that there is a significant difference between local and International students’ level of satisfaction from the university.…
