“Some people don't like change, but you need to embrace change if the alternative is disaster.” Elon Musk. The story takes place in the last decade of the eighteenth century. The British naval warship, the Bellipotent influences the young sailor, Billy Budd, removing him from the Rights-of-Man, a merchant ship. Mr. Budd’s commanding officer, Captain Graveling, was reluctant to let one of his best men go, but had no choice but to comply with the superior ship’s demands. Many agree that Billy Budd should have changed ships. Others believed that he should not have transferred to the Bellipotent. The foretopman should have switched ships for three main reasons: He was the perfect sailor, it opened up opportunities, and his fellow sailors accepted him. The first reason why Billy should have switched ships was that he was the perfect sailor. Mr. Budd preformed his job efficiently. The forepostman was continually on time for his shift on the foremast and tried to please his commanding officers. Billy’s previous commanding officer didn’t have much of a choice on relinquishing him to Bellipotent. The British navy recruited Billy after seeing how good of a sailor he was. Finally, Billy obeyed his commanding officers with respect. He even obeyed Claggart, the Master of Arms, who consequently had an agenda against the …show more content…
He worked for the Royal Navy instead of merchant ship. He learned better skills from working on a Navy ship. Mr. Budd kill such as respect for higher ranking officers and discipline. The ship was also bigger and different, which gave him the chance to learn how various ships worked. Finally, he was willing to switch ships and go to the Bellipotent on his own free will. Ultimately this results in his death, but he becomes a legend amongst his fellow sailors. By switching ships, Billy experienced unexpected
