The Destruction Of Odysseus Life In Homer's Odyssey
Alike to the children who are able to watch “...their father’s life dawn again”, Odysseus is given a sign that the domestic life he craves for will be bestowed upon him soon (437). The father on the brink of death symbolizes how Odysseus’ yearning to return to a domestic life as a citizen and be with his family had originally appeared to be dying and impossible to achieve due to his distance. At first, Odysseus’ life is comparable to the storm Poseidon created, chaotic and filled with perils threatening to take his life and destroy his hope. However, upon seeing “...that shore, those trees” the stability of domesticity is approaching him (441).
