The Day I Gave Birth
The day I gave birth to my first child
Yolanda Jackson
Composition I – 46
May 9 2012

March 26, 2004 I got up at 7 am and took me a good hot bath. After my bath I put me on some clothes to go to the hospital in Rutherfordton. On this day all I could smell was the scent of hot spring air, birds chirping, and fresh spring flowers. This was the day my labor was induced and I gave birth to my first son. I was 17 years old not expecting to jump head first into a teenage life as being a mother. Leaving home going to the hospital was my husband, grandmother, and my mother. When I got there, a nurse by the name of heather signed me in. After that is when everything got real interesting. They put me into a wheel chair and rolled me to the third floor which was the prenatal floor of the hospital. At 9:00 they took me into a room and put a pill inside me that would make me contract within 2 hour from the time they inserted it.

My husband was watching TV, and my sister was holding my baby. I felt so cold but sore from the stitches so I got up and took a hot bath. The water felt so good but it smelled medicated, like they had put some type of medicine in it. But sit in the water for an hour or so and when I got out I had to pee and from the stitches it burned so bad because of the stitches. So after I came out the bathroom I called the nurse to give me something for the burning and she brought so burn relief spray and it felt so good. The burn relief spray stops the burning at the time but every time I used the bathroom it would still burn like crazy. So I stayed in the hospital for three days, I call it the baby and mother bond time but I wasn’t the only one that stayed them three days it was also my sister and my husband who didn’t leave until I left. , and it is nothing like having the support of family when you need

April 7th, 1999 is when I was born on Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota. I only lived there for two weeks after I was born. While we were in South Dakota my parents had bought my cat Sadie. She is actually still alive to this day! My mom had told me that the night I was born the doctor had an emergency Cholecystectomy and came to check on us the next day wearing a gown and pushing his own IV poll. After living in South Dakota for a couple of weeks, we then moved to Indiana. We only lived there for a year and then moved to Missouri. I do not remember anything about living at those two places because I was only about a year and a half old. We only stayed in Missouri for a month then we moved to Illinois where my parents family lived, and also because my grandma was diagnosed with breast…

On September 8th 1990, it was a hot sunny day in the city of Cali, Colombia. Temperature around 88°F with very low humidity, normal for that time of year, since the summer was about to begin. A sky full of altocumulus clouds cooled the estimated population of about 1.7 million people ("1990 population estimate for Cali, Colombia."). Among that population there was my mother. Already late for her gynecology appointment, inconveniently causes by a car accident, she would shortly find out when I would be entering the world. The accident turned a 20-minute drive in a 45-minute drive. Rushing into the clinic, as the doctor’s assistant was calling her name, she rapidly was taken to the back to speak with the provider. When the doctor came into the room he calmly said, “I have good news, and bad news”. My mom’s heart already racing she decided to go with the bad news first. “The probability of being a complicated birth is pretty high, which means the surgical team will have to perform a cesarean section instead of a vaginal birth”. My mother relived thinking it would be something much worse she asked the doctor to go ahead with the good news. “The baby will probably be arriving today”. My mom became frantic, “that’s the good news? They might as well both have been bad! My mother panicked, she had nothing ready for the birth, since her first child was not due for another 10 days. Her hormone levels raging at an all time sky high, she shortly began to cry. The doctor and his staff hugged her and reassured her that everything was going to be ok. They quickly rushed her to the hospital where they would have all the equipment in the event that there were any major complications. Once she was all settled in, the operating room staff started to prepare for the birth around 3:15 P.M. The staff thought I was ready to come out, however I took another three hours to make my grand appearance. At 6:23 PM I arrived spreading my arms and legs with a…

When I got to St. Vincent’s hospital I thought I was in labor but the doctor said my water wasn’t broken yet. So I had to walk up and down the hallway for the baby to come down. Then finally the doctor pulled my water. And oh my god I was in so much pain. The nurse said” Keep pushing, the baby is almost out.” With a final push I had my baby. She was the most beautiful little baby with dark hair and big light brown eyes. I called Diana.…

A certified nursing assistant (CNA) is not the same as a medical assistant. The occupations both involve working with patients and collaborating with nurses and physicians in medical settings, but a CNA has much more specific duties. CNAs aid nurses by doing patient prep work, such as taking temperature or blood pressure, feeding and bathing patients, and filling the role of a general caregiver for patients who may not need constant medical attention, but do need assistance with personal maintenance in between medical procedures. CNAs and medical assistants may work in similar settings and perform similar tasks even if their level of education and their requirements for licensure or certification are different. A crucial difference between the two is that CNAs tend to provide bedside care to senescent patients, where medical assistants assist more with procedural or administrative preparation and housekeeping.…

They carried me outside to where the ambulance was waiting. As they opened the back doors and placed me inside the ambulance, the harsh smell of chemicals and sanitizers hit me in the face like a brick. Once we were all in, we went to the hospital. By the time we arrived, my arm wasn’t as bloody anymore because they had cleaned, dressed and put a temporary sling around my arm in the ambulance. Mike asked me if my arm was giving me any discomfort but I told him I was alright. It was probably due to the pills one of the other men had given me while I was still in the ambulance. It was called anesthesia or something like that. Mike told us to follow him and we were lead into one of the hospital rooms. There was a sink, 2 chairs, a table, a television playing the news, a hospital bed and a ton of medical equipment I didn’t recognize, and just like the rest of the hospital it smelled like cleaner, chemicals and sanitizer. Mike told us the doctor would be coming shortly and with that he left. After what felt like an eternity, the doctor came in and checked my entire right arm up to my…

I honestly did not know how serious it was. My sister was only 15 years old at that time and we were not close as other sisters are but when she saw me go in the test room, I have never seen her breakdown so hard. However, it also made our relationship change after that experience. I remember many nights where my mom would stay on the chair next to my bed because the hospital was located at the Children’s Hospital in Oakland and we lived in Modesto. So, my parents thought it would be better if one of them stayed back while the other goes home and work. One day, I was on my bed and my cousin who is very close to me from today, she was running towards my bed and she hugged me so hard. She was a year older than me and I always looked up to her. When she stopped hugging me, she told me that home did not feel the same without me being there. I had never thought that how things could completely change from there because when I got home from the hospital. There were many things that were difficult that I had to…

I knew that if i could stay awake it would be a lot easier on me but it wasn’t an easy thing to do. Around 3 hours of running, playing and the excessive blood loss i was taking a turn for the worse but we had soon reached the ER and she rushed me and my brother in and had us sit down. While she filled out a sheet and gave it back to the nice lady. In that time i was just sitting down finally stopped crying but my eyes were still watery and red. I looked around and saw some people who looked sick and people who looked worried and the others were patiently waiting for something while looking at magazines or on their phones. I remember staring...a lot, and i felt some stares back at me. Some guy had came into the room like 10 minutes later calling out my name so mom grabbed her things and followed the man along with my brother and myself. This team of doctors had me strapped down to a table and mentioned stitches and i started crying like a baby because my dad had told jokes about getting stitches before and made it sound really painful. They decided it wasn’t the best thought because the wound was too big for stitches. I felt more relieved than i did pain. They tightened the straps and began the procedure. Mom stayed by my whole side during the operation and held my hand they took 3 extremely large staples and drove one by one into my head and 4 or the rest had to hold me down from moving too much. They got a good grip on me and started pushing the first staple into my head and it hurt a lot because the pain pills wore off and it felt so painful. Try taking a nail to your head and push. When the operation ended i got a cars note book along with some crayons for…

I heard him say “it’s ok baby… ” just as another jolt of pain came. As his voice faded I could feel him rubbing my back, and I tried my best to listen to his voice and forget the pain.
