The Classification of Steel Ball
The Classification of Steel Ball
There are two kinds of steel ball, casting steel ball and forging steel ball. Casting ball manufacturers mix scrap steel, scrap metal and other waste metals in intermediate frequency electric stove for heating so as to fully melting. Right amount precious metal alloy, such as ferrochrome, ferromanganese, vanadium iron are added in melting process. When temperature is above 1550 ℃, powering hot metal to the steel mold or mold steel ball production line. This kind of ball is called casting steel ball or casting grinding ball. 10.0% or higher chromium content, carbon content between 1.80% and 3.20% are called high chrome alloy casting ball. After quenching process, the hardness of high chromium alloyed casting ball must be more than 58 HRC and impact value 3.0 J/cm2, according to national standard and requirement. Forging steel ball manufacturers made steel ball through direct heating and forging way. It doesn't need smelting process. Compared with casting steel ball, chromium content is much lower, between 0.1% 0.5%. Carbon content is below 1.0%. surface hardness of forging steel ball canreach more than 56. Hardening layer is around 15 mm due to poor harden ability and the core hardness is typically more than 30 degrees. The harden ability is difference with the increase of steel ball diameter. Normally forging steel ball often adopts the water quenching treatment. The higher hardness, the better wear resistance and corrosion resistance of steel ball. After quenching and tempering treatment of high chromium balls, the hardness can reach 60 or more. That’s why the wear resistance of casting ball is 2.5 times of that of forging steel ball.

There are many different ways that these steels are processed primarily for the fabrication of bike frames, in the case of 853, the method used is air hardening, and this is simply when the metal is left to harden. After the cooling period, the steel will then go through a series of heat treatment methods to further increase the ‘Reynolds 853’ strength. The steel can now withstand large loads. The properties of…

Heat treating steels to increase their hardness strength has been a process that has been done for centuries. In addition to this, reasoning was found for why it is uncommon to see heat treatment in materials with low carbon content, such as low carbon steels (1018 steel) and brass. The results of this experiment coincide with what was expected, and no obvious errors in the experiment were found. One factor of this experiment that could be improved is the quality of the micrographs that were produced. To do this, the metallurgical preparation of the material would need to be done in a much more precise and consistent way. The instructions were clearly laid out, but the execution of the instructions varied too much between individual samples, and consequently produced lackluster images for analysis. In the future, some recommendations to improve the quality of the finished surfaces could be to keep fresh abrasive pads on the ECOMET polishing machines, taking extra care when preparing and handling the etching solutions, and observing the surface finish of the material directly after the etching process is…

The experiment observed the mechanical deformation process of different materials by three tests: tensile test, impact test, and fracture-toughness test. The materials evaluated in the tensile test were annealed 1045 steel, cold rolled 1045 steel, 2024-T4 aluminum and cast iron. 2024-T4 aluminum is concluded to be most ductile (25.7 % reduction in area) and cast iron the most brittle (123 MPa). Effects of cold rolling in 1045 steel are apparent, as it has the highest strength among the materials tested (402 MPa yield strength). Impact test measured the impact energy of 1045 steel, 2024 aluminum, polypropylene (PP), and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA). This test also observed the effect of temperature on material ductility. The fracture-toughness test was performed on 2024-T4 aluminum to determine a KIC of 35.3 MPam. From the experiment, it was found that the brittle-ductile transition temperature of PP is between 0 0C and room temperature, whereas the transition temperature of 1045 steel is between 25 0C and 100 0C.…

This can be done though the Vickers, Brinell, Knoop, or Rockwell hardness tests. The Vickers hardness test consists of using a square pyramidal diamond indenter, whilst the Rockwell hardness test uses a conical diamond pyramid, or a hardened steel ball [5]. The Brinell hardness test makes use of a 10mm sphere steel or tungsten carbide ball and the Knoop hardness test employs a diamond pyramid indenter [1]. The hardness test readings are measured along measured intervals on the specimen from the quenched end thereof. The recorded values of the hardness test are graphed as a function of their position in distance from the quenched end, resulting in a hardenability curve as seen in Figure 3…
