The Blind Side Themes
In the film The Blind Side, Leigh Anne introduces the plot by using a football analogy: “There's a moment of orderly silence before a football play begins. Players are in position, linemen are frozen, and anything is possible. Then, like a traffic accident, stuff begins to randomly collide.” The Tuohy`s come from a prominent background, and their life is relatively straightforward. When Leigh Anne encounters Michael Oher on a rainy night, little do they know that their lives will change. Michael was a young traumatized boy when the Touhy`s first met him. He was taken from his mother at a young age and was placed in different foster homes which he ran away from to get back to his mother. Gradually, Michael became part of the Tuohy family. The change for both the Tuohy`s and Michael was not a smooth path as they faced many challenges along the way. Michael had to overcome his past, while the Tuohy`s had to confront judgements from their surroundings. Watching …show more content…
The themes are the result of the adversity the characters had to face. Leigh Anne made the decision to welcome Michael into her home on a rainy night, and that was the start to a beautiful relationship. The hardships faced along the way were payments for the blessings they would receive later on. Michael endured an unstable childhood which led him to having to overcome racism and relearning the meaning of family. In the end, his past only made him more confident. Until Michael became a part of her life, Leigh Anne took things for granted. From the help of Michael she learnt to appreciate what she had in her life. The film made me evaluate my own reasons for enduring hardship. I realized that I put myself in demanding situations for the high I receive later on. As humans we are bound to face adversity in our lives, but we endure the struggle in hopes to find our happy

The movie of The Blind Side attempted to mimic the book as much as possible, however there were noticeable choices that the director made that changed the presentation of the movie compared to the picture that the book created. One of the main choices was to cut out a lot of the football facts that were presented in the book. Throughout the book, numerous chapters were dedicated to talking about the history of the importance of the left tackle and other players in the game, but in the movie, almost all of those scenes were cut out. This made the movie move faster unlike the book which was slow moving at times.…

The book had part of its plot based on Michael’s life, and the other on the growth of the game and left tackle. The talk about how Jose theismans arm was broken in two places because hs left tackle did not protect his blind side, and maybe his am breaking in two hinted to the 2 story lines. The movie simply merged Michael’s poor past into football and turned him into a star to cater to a wider audience and be a feel good inspirational movie, while the book gave insight on actual football, the growth of the game, and Michael Oher’s upbringing. In the movie, they completely removed Michael’s life in hurt village, or explain how the projects came to become hurt village. They also took out many of the minor characters like Zach, and all the other little details like how Michael wanted to play basketball like M.J., and how his father went to prison. They also never brought up any details about Oher’s brothers and sisters in the movie. As you can see, they left out major chunks of the book from the movie, completely removing the end of it which talked about his life before meeting the…

Slowly, he became part of the Tuohy family. Leigh Ann became Michael’s legal guardian especially after hearing he has a drug addict mother and that no one knew her where about was. In school, Michael’s academic records improved through the help of his tutor Miss Sue and soon enough he became part of the school football. It was a shaky start at first but encouragement by Leigh Anne focusing on Michael’s protective instincts made him dominate on the field. Meanwhile, SJ was busy videoing Michaels games and after compiling them he sent them in to different college coached around the country. He was recruited by these colleges and offered him different opportunities yet the Tuohy family preferred the University of Mississippi for him for they were both an alumni of the school as well as for his tutor, Miss Sue who was as well an alumna. I have selected the movie; “The Blind Side”, it is the true story of Michael Oher, a homeless teenager who was able to overcome great obstacles in order to become a first round draft pick in the NFL. Michael Oher had a rough childhood as he didn’t know his father and his mother was addicted to drugs. He was in and out of foster homes and at times living on the street. The football coach at Wingate, a private school, saw football potential in Michael and got him admitted into the prestigious school. However, he had learning disabilities and still did not have a permanent home. Leigh Anne Tuohy, the mother of a Wingate student, and wife of the owner of several Taco Bell restaurants, finds out about Michael’s predicament and invites him to stay the night at their home. Once Michael is in the Tuohy home, a close relationship develops between him and the Tuohys. The one night stay turns into a permanent living situation for Oher. Leigh Anne makes it her personal mission to make sure Michael has everything he needs emotionally and academically to graduate from high school and to get admitted to Ole Miss. After a successful college football campaign, Oher was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the first round in 2009, thus fulfilling his dream. This movie has it all. As you watch it, you experience the emotions of both sadness and joy, as you watch this young man go from being homeless to being drafted in the first round of the 2009 NFL…

When we use symbolic-interaction theory with this movie we see how Michael is a homeless teenager trying to fit in. We see when he goes to school he struggles to fit in and how he stays quiet throughout the day. You can also use the S.I. theory on how Micheal when he was homeless he had ratty clothes and not many personal belongings. A S.I. theorist would look at Michael and see how he doesn 't have a bed and is staying in the Tuohy house on a couch as a symbol of homelessness and poverty. Lastly when using this theory you see how the movie portrays and gives the homeless symbols of run down houses and having drugs and illegal activity going on in the movie. For instance having no bed or personal home for Michael Oher is a symbol of poverty.…

During the course of The Blind Side, Michael is transformed from a shy boy living in poverty, into a highly confident and successful sportsman. This change was brought about with the support of the Tuohey family with whom he came to belong after they took care of, then adopted him into their family. This family also helped him break away from the dangerous ‘lower class’ society in which he didn’t really belong, as shown in the scene where he goes back after living with the Tuoheys and gets in a fight with the local gang; and start to belong to the ‘upper class’ society of Wingate which he previously didn’t belong to.…
