The Addams Family: A Narrative Fiction
I was sitting at home on a rainy Saturday evening. Lightning struck while I was watching The Addams Family, the house grew quieter. My parents entered the room and told me that they were going to the bank. The door slammed shut, and silence pervaded the house. I worried as they. I had waited several days for them to come home. Suddenly, the doorbell rang, and I leaped to get the door. To my surprise, Uncle Toby stood in the darkness before me, drenched from the storm. He had a grim look on his face, as if were bearing bad news. He started with, “Dillon, um, this is very difficult for me to say, but you must know”. “What is it?”, I exclaimed.

“Ummm…..Dillon your, uh, parents….”
“What is it‽” I said again .
“Your parents were murdered” he said sadly.
“What?” I whispered to myself.
“They haven’t caught the murderer yet” stated the uncle, “but I cannot afford to adopt you”.
“Then where will I go?”

My mom had been stressed out before, because she had had to go to a meeting to make a pitch to her boss, meaning her nails were sharp. The one knife, it seemed odd until everything clicked. The new parents, the Yates, they murdered my parents! But why‽ I did not know what to; do call the cops or run away. I had a suspicion that they wouldn’t let me use their phone, so I had no choice. I tried to rush out of the door, but it was locked! I tried other doors and even tried opening a window and climbing out of there, but they were all locked. All of the sudden the Yates came up right behind me as I was trying to escape and I screamed and ran as fast as I could to get away from them. Vincent had the dreaded knife in his hand. I sprinted between them, trying to brush past them. I kept running. I ran into a booby trap! I was stuck in a net. The parents ran toward me. “We got him, they said,” but then, they too fell for their own booby traps. They tripped, and the knife flew, just close enough, for me to catch

It was a hot afternoon and i was setting by the river thinking when i saw my boy sam running towards me like his behind was on fire. His face looked frightened, so much like his father’s. He said that Mr. Finch and Cal just drove into our yard in those fancy automobiles that costs way too much. My heart started beating so fast but i still had hope. He could be here because they realized Tom was innocent and he was finally coming home to us. When i got to my home, I saw my children playing a game with their marbles. I saw Mr. Finch standing there with a look of sorrow on his face. He looked at me with regret. He didn't have to say anything because i just knew, I just knew he was gone. My knees gave out all of a sudden, I collapsed to the dirt. I wished that the ground would swallow me up. I was not strong for this, i'm still not. I held back my screams that will break out any minute. I have to put a straight face for my kids, i’m all they have now.…

I repeated these words to myself as I looked in the mirror wondering how I could tell Yolanda, Martin, Dexter, and sweet little Bernice… Oh, Bernice! She had just turned five less than a month ago. How could I tell them their beloved father has been shot? How will they understand? Yolanda was the oldest and the wisest. There is no way I could sugarcoat this. I slumped down behind the bathroom door and took a deep breath. What originally began as a day filled with strength, service, and self-reliance had now ended filled with despair, disbelief, and damage.…

I tried to get actual words out but all could come out was, “Mmm… Amm.” “Sydney.” I nodded, feeling like a stupid dizzy bobble head. “You were in a car accident, and also you are in the hospital right now.” Dad told me. “This is probably going to be hard on you but…” He stopped, and I thought I heard him crying. “Your… Mom… Is…” He stopped again then he started, “ Dead.” My whole world collapsed with that word. I remember staring at the wall with my face feeling hot and wet. The look of confusion and sadness on my father’s face brought tears to my eyes. This memory stained my room forever. This memory tainted my perception of the house. The house slowly transformed into a less innocent version of itself. The feeling of not wanting to forgive was the most painful of them all. I did not understand why she did what she did but it was a fact and we all have to accept facts. I knew that this was the event that would change my life forever. This made me want to leave the house that I so dearly loved before and make something better of…

When I walked in the doors of our house, I looked to the left where our couch was and saw my parents sitting facing towards me with nervous faces. I set my bag on the ground next to the door, and I set my shoes next to my bag. I slowly turned around and walked towards the couch, hesitant to take a step forward. Part of me considered bolting--running for the door. Their faces were plastered with anxiety, and I tried to think of what I had done. Nothing clear came to mind. Once I finally sat down, I looked at my parents and said, “What's wrong?”…

“The defendant is…not guilty,” said the judge. Yes, my plan actually worked. I can’t believe that Herb actually made everybody agree that I was innocent. I actually got away with killing my idiotic father. Oh I despised him so much, he would beat me and yell at me for no apparent reason. I remember that day like it was yesterday, I went to the drugstore and bought myself a switchblade knife. I was so irritated and I was ready to do anything to get rid of that old hag. I walked into the apartment and he was sitting down at the table. I snuck up behind him and stabbed him in the chest as hard and fast as I possibly could. He yelled then turned around and looked at me with a shocked look then fell on the ground. Right when he died, I felt devastated but also overjoyed because I wasn’t going to get abused anymore, however, I also lost my dad.…

    Why Were You Persecuted?

Well, it all began with me sitting down with my family at the breakfast table munching on a piece of charred toast and guzzling down some milk, which was the very moment of when I heard the delicate sound of sirens coming from the east end of the street. My father’s face grew faint and my mother rapidly stood up and snatched my hand, as well as my brother’s. She then directed us towards the back of the house through a tiny break in the floor. Once we got to the hole, my mom took my brother’s hand and put it inside mine, telling him to guard me. We were placed into the hole and she smooched our heads and then camouflaged the small light we had with a rug. I began to lose it, oblivious of the imprisonment and demolition that laid before me on a silver tray. My brother and I spent a week in that hole, even though it felt like we had been down there for a life span. For the time being, I thought of my parents and where they went and if they would they come back soon for my brother and I? One day, while we were still in the hole, with muscle spasms building up in my legs, I heard footsteps coming from above my head. My brother, praying that it was our parents coming back to rescue us from the endless twilight that we were challenged with, slid the rug over and cropped up with scrunched up eyes. The harsh man standing above us, nevertheless, was not our father, but a man I would soon come to know as a Nazi soldier. The logic of our kidnapping was not because of our offense against the law, but because of my religion, my ethnicity, the way I talked and the way I looked.…

I let my feet feel the carpeted stairs inch by inch. A found missing flyer was framed on the wall as I paced up and down the hallway my head was out of my mind or was it my mind was out of my head? Screaming. Screaming. Screaming. It never stopped! Where was it! I banged on the wall over, and over, and over, and over again. I ran to the closet door and opened it. There it was; the screaming. There she was; the girl. I couldn't see her, but I could feel the chill. A victim. I closed the door. My eyes crossed and rolled back. A shot of adrenaline shoots up me. The screams poor out of my mouth. I can't control it. I try to close my mouth, but I can't. I start walking down the stairs at a fast pace. Foaming at the mouth I try to get myself together but I can't. Why. Before I know it I'm picking up my gun and walking at an even faster pace out the door, but how. Something's pulling me, but nothing's there. I'm walking faster, and faster, and faster. Past the river, past the boat, into the water, to the shore, through more woods. Walking, and walking, and walking, and walking. I stop. My upper body seems to collapse, but my legs keep me stable. I look around as if I'm checking to make sure no ones there. I take the gun to my head I start to weep and call for help... But I'm already…
