Fasting on his birthday and on the birthday of the
Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)
Is it permissible to fast on the birthday of the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) on the basis of the hadeeth in Saheeh Muslim, al-Nasaa’i and Abu Dawood, which says that when he (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) was asked about fasting on Mondays, he said: “That is the day on which I was born…”
Also on the basis of this hadeeth, is it permissible for a person to fast on the day on which he was born, following thereby the example of the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)?
Please explain.
Praise be to Allaah.
Firstly:
Muslim (1162) narrated from Abu Qataadah al-Ansaari (may
Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) was asked about fasting on
Mondays and he said: “On (that day) I was born and on it
Revelation came down to me.”
Al-Tirmidhi (747) narrated, in a hadeeth that he classed as hasan, from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Deeds are presented (to Allah) on Monday and
Thursday and I like my deeds to be presented when I am fasting.”
Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi.

From the saheeh hadeeths quoted above, it is clear that just as the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) fasted on
Mondays out of gratitude for the blessing of his birth on this day, he also fasted it because of its virtue, because the Revelation came down to him on that

There are several similarities and differences between Maya Angelou's "Champion of the World" and Amy Tan's "Fish Cheeks." In both stories, the main character is trying to fit in with a group of which they are inherently not a part of. Angelou tries to fit in with the elder African Americans in that she copies their feelings of hope that Joe always full name or only last name will win the fight, and Tan tries to become a typical white American girl in order to attract a boy that she likes. Angelou, being so young, mirrors the adults’ desire for the triumph of Joe Louis, who is viewed as the representative and hero of the oppression experienced by all black people. Because Conjunction beginning a sentence of all the blacks gathered in the store, Angelou is surrounded by blacks who are proudly rooting for Louis’ triumph, the African-American victory over decades of oppression suffered at the hands of whites. She is filled with this desire to win and is unashamed to take pride in her ethnicity. Unlike Angelou, Tan is ashamed of her race and wants to fit in with Americans.…

As a college student in todays world technology is all around. It comes in many forms such as laptops, cell phones, tablets and many more. It seems every college student has either a smart phone or a laptop if not both. College students rely heavily on technology for homework and research and also for connecting with friends on social media websites. Many people have created Facebook or Twitter accounts. The sites have spread worldwide and many people use them as a form of communication to keep in contact with others. Each individual has their own opinions on social media sites, some do not care for them, while others are on them constantly. Depending on their view, each person will use a different rhetorical situation to persuade others. A rhetorical situation contains the stance or position of the author, audience and genre. Advances in technology cause great controversy. These controversies are centered around the influences technology has on the people who engage in different types of technology. In the article titled “Out Semi-Literate Youth? Not So Fast” by Andrea Lunsford, she explains the importance of technology and how, in most cases, technology is able to help develop students. In another article titled “Hal and Me” by Nicholas Carr, he stresses the point that technology is pushing ‘the good life’ to the wayside. Although both authors have different opinions when it comes to technology, they both agree that changes are occurring due to technological influences on peoples’ brains. Technology plays an extremely large role in the lives of the people in this world, it is important that everyone understands that changes that come with the advances of technology.…

As one of the “Five Pillars” of Islam, Sawm is a time of restriction for those who are healthy to abstain from eating, drinking, and sexual intercourse from dawn until dusk (Ansari, 2). During this Islamic tradition, no food or drink is consumed from sunrise until sundown. Many families rise before the sun does in order to prepare heavy meals to sustain them throughout the day. Many meals are prepared for the entire community as a charitable religious act (Beeman, 9). Ramadan is an act of worship for those who are participating to be thankful for the words of Allah that transcended from heaven. “The Qur’an states that fasting is an important part of religious life for people, since it was prescribed for Muslims as well as “for those before you,” in order “that you become pious” (2:183)” (Ansari, 1). The Islamic calendar is made up of twelve lunar months. Therefore, Ramadan does not occur seasonally. When Ramadan falls during the scorching summer months, it becomes an increasingly stretching fasting time for everyone (Schimmel, 2). [←…

Some Muslims disapprove of celebrating the birthday, on the grounds that it is an innovation, and innovations in religious matters are forbidden. Why? Because if changes were made in religious matters it would imply that Islam was not complete when it was revealed to the Prophet Mohammed (pbuh), or that the Prophet (pbuh) did not tell Muslims everything that was revealed to him. This would be seen as highly sacrilegious by many Muslims.Lailat al Miraj (27 Rajab)…
