Technological Advancements: How Technology Has Affected Our Culture
In recent years our culture has made extensive technological advancements. While these technological advancements are extraordinary, they have affected our culture in numerous ways. The main reason technology affects us in such an immense way, is that our culture often does consider or realize the consequences technology will have on the future. Our cultures everyday life has become completely fixated with technology that we often forget our reliance on technology. Therefore we feel no need to recognize the consequences of addiction with technology. If we continue to live oblivious to the consequences of our overuse of technological advancement, we might leave future generations in a world that is already or will be ruined by technology. Our worlds over dependence and overuse of technology is becoming more and more noticeable each and every day. We are becoming so reliant on technology that we are almost incapable of surviving without it. Similar to Wall-e we are blindly using technology and do not realize we have an addiction with it. In the book They Say I Say author of the reading "Better than Humans" Kevin Kelly, says " Every time you click on the search button you are employing a robot to do something we as species are unable to do alone." (301) Technology has advanced so much that everyday task that used to be done by hand are now down through technology so we often forget that we are using it. A real world issue that Wall-e also brings up is the fact that we as humans have allowed technology to make decisions for us about our world without questioning it. We have been brought up in a culture that has taught us to listen to the internet and do what it says, to the point that we blindly follow what they hear and see on the internet. Wall-e also brings up the real world issue of our overuse of technology. Our whole world revolves around technology and no matter how hard you try you will never be without it. This has led to our blindness to real world issues and our incapability to solve them without …show more content…
By doing this we can create a healthy relationship between humans and technology. Were our world benefit from technology not detriment from technology. I believe my success is due to childhood with very little technology. While most children in this generation grow up having tablets, computers, and phones I did not until I was older. By not growing up on technology I was able to focus on academics and when I was given technology I was able to mostly use it to benefit my academics. By growing up with little technology it allowed be to see what I could do when I was not distracted. Ultimately, my life without technology helped me get to where I am todays which is a dual enrolled college student at the College of Western Idaho as a sophomore in high school. I fear that if I grew up on technology like most children in my generation I would have been just as addicted to it as they are and I would not be where I am today. Having little technology in my life until I was wise enough to use it responsibly allowed be to benefit from technology. Technology can be as easily good as it is bad in ones’ life as long as you learn to use is

The article “The Future is Now: It’s Heading Right at Us, But We Never See it Coming” by Joel Achenbach, discusses the issues which humans are facing when it comes to adapting to technology. He makes it clear that technology is advancing at a high speed and there is nothing stopping it, but unfortunately humans are not able to keep up with this process. The issues that are prominent when it comes to the relationship between technology and people, are less about the usage of these new high-tech gadgets, but more about controlling technology. This population is heading towards very controversial new possibilities when it comes to these scientifically advanced products, but topics such as the halting of the aging process, are not discussed thoroughly.…

In today's society, the world revolves around technology. Technology has become the basis of life for a large portion of the world, and it is depended on in everyday society. They have greatly increased the life-expectancy of those of us who live in “advanced” countries, but they have destabilized society, have made life unfulfilling, have subjected human beings to indignities, have led to widespread psychological suffering (in the Third World to physical suffering as well) and have inflicted severe damage on the natural world.” I have experienced technological advancements by working with any new software on a computer and the constantly evolving world of phones and computer, so I have some mixed feelings in agreement to both views. It is through this I have learned that technology evolving can be good but it does, at times, come with heavy burdens and consequences for the…

With the rapid growth of technology one many wonder how it is affecting culture and if it is good or bad. In American culture today, I see it in both lights. With more and more robots being produced, people are starting to be replaced and are consequently losing their jobs. Even a simple production line for making a car is not necessary for human labor anymore. The sense of products being “hand made” is a rare commodity these days. Culturally, it effects people by losing their channel of income, and now has to either find a new form, or rely on someone else for financial support. This is evident in young adults, with the rate of them living at home is increasing to a number this nation has never seen before. With that being said, there…

Anyone living today knows the effects technology has had on society today, not to mention how it’s changed our generation entirely. Our generation can hardly remember a time when technology didn’t exist. It’s become a part of our lifestyle, and isn’t going anywhere soon. “The evolution of technology has reached a point where pretty much anything is available at the touch of a button. Shopping, learning, working and entertainment can all be accessed from the comfort of our own homes, on a train or sat in a cafe,” (The Guardian).…

Over the last few years technology has gotten further than it had 100 years ago. Everyone is so focused on their phones, laptops and televisions we don’t see what’s happening right under our noses. These days people can’t even go an hour without their phones and that idea is being presented to all of the viewers of WALL-E. If people do continue down this lane of technology then we will eventually end up as the characters in WALL-E did. In WALL-E it shows how the characters wouldn’t look away from their screens at all and would become flustered if they came across a situation where they did have to, sound familiar? This example supports my opinion because it relates right back to what’s happening in the world right now. Everyone is literally obsessed with anything and everything to do with technology. We’re all so invested in our technology that we don’t even realize that how bad poverty has gotten or how global warming is affecting our ozone layer. And none of us are doing anything about it, just like the people on the ship in WALL-E. They didn’t care that their planet was practically a pigsty, and that’s how all of our attitudes are starting to develop. We shouldn’t be too invested in technology because we could be making our own bed and eventually we would have to lie in…

Back then, when our grandparents were young life was simpler as they were able to interact with each other. Their leisure activities were just reading a book or going out for a walk, to name a few. As time went by, they started to see new ways of entertainment; when the radio was invented they were able to interact with a lot more people than before and could listen to their favorite artists and the latest news. Times went on, and our parents had the chance of seeing beyond where they lived. Television became the center of entertainment for those who could afford it. At that time, society was more dependent on their own but as they were striving, new ways of communication were also being discovered. As technology improved, Americans focused…

In this generation, technology and society go hand and hand. Technology and human life cannot be separated in the perspective of various people. Society has grown to have a co-dependence on technology. As stated by Fareed ZakAria in his article “How to Restore the American dream”, “technology is not only affecting society, but its creating a better reality. Everything is able to be achieved through ease” (Zakaria 460). In a broader view, we depend on technology for everything. Each individual in the world today uses this new entity in their daily lives. The use has become too great, that most of the time it’s viewed as a habit. The demand for technology keeps on increasing everyday as we use technology to travel, to communicate, to learn, and to handling business but most importantly, to live in peace and comfort. In the article, “Technology & Society: A Canadian Perspective”, the authors said the following about technology. “Technology and Society, we are told exist in a dynamic reciprocal relationship; they act on, and react to, one another” (Goyder and Aant). Without technology society is able to…

Did you ever watched the movie Wall-E by DreamWorks? Because if you did, you will notice how technologies have destroyed our earth and how technologies have turned us into fat, stupid and slow creatures. Moreover, did you ever notice how people act in trains in China? When one stands in the middle of the crowd, what he can only sees when he raise his head is everyone looking at their phones. The only people who are not on the phones are old grandmas and grandpas chatting happily with each other. The advance of technologies is indeed good, it makes people’s life easier. In the past, a mail needs at least 10 days to travel from a side of the world to the other side; Now, an e-mail needs only a click. Workers worked easier for industry works, friends and families communicate with each others easier, everything become easier with technologies. One day without internet or our phones will make us feel like 10 years outside the society. We are already too dependent on modern technologies, some people stays mostly at home in their whole life. The advance of modern technologies will make us turned into fat humans like the one in movie Wall-E. Continuously the technologies advanced and more and more people preferred to stay at home instead of meeting others outside. We are losing traditions, losing cultures, losing the nature of being a human and we are even losing our purpose of enjoying life. We are becoming too dependent on modern society and if it advances more, we loses more. We lost traditions, natures, cultures, purposes, time and money for one thing, Convenience. If one day in the future, our technologies failed us, what will happen? When technologies stop working, can humans live or can the world work as it always does? Students started using iPads instead of books in schools, families starts to use their phones instead of happily chatting everyday. If people ever…
