Host | Good morning to everyone. Welcome to CCY talks show. Haha..XD As u ppl knw , I am the most famous MC. Dont scream at me > <..not LA just kidding.Today, we’ll be talking about the advantages and disadvantages of using Facebook. To better understand these events, we'll talk with Ms Jenny Wong, who is a student in Swinburne university; as well as Ms Kelly, who is a teacher in a private institution .Also , we have Mrs Lee who is a representative from parents –teacher association. Mr Mark can you tell us about how FB become very important part of people life ? | Mr Mark | Well, Facebook is a social networking utility. It has similar purpose to sites such as Friendster, MySpace, Bebo, etc. The major difference is that Facebook has applications that you may add. These applications are designed by programmers specifically for Facebook users. Facebook is free and it's one of the best medium for communication. With the help of Facebook you can connect to different people from anywhere in the world because almost every people around the world use Facebook .. | Host | Lets go to Mrs Lee for a response. Mrs Lee , what do you think of Mr Mark’s comment? | Mrs Lee | Well, this is a good topic to talks about. Because I have children also. My sons spend a lot of their time sitting infront of their computer or holding their modern telephones. They keep on checking others profile photos ,commenting ,gamming and chatting with their friends. And this make me headache!! | Ms Kelly | We really need to take serious on this issue.     To begin with, social networking is terrible because it is distracting to teenagers. Some teens that have homework to do are sometimes hoarding the computer, social networking instead of doing their homework. When their parents would tell them to do their homework, they’ll say they’ll get to it. Do you think they were actually listening while commenting on their friend’s picture on Facebook? They were probably not. This distracting “obsession” can also have an effect on their English grammar. Some English teachers are disappointed to see some students use the “chat language”, which is commonly used in social networking sites. This includes: lol, btw, brb, ttyl, l8r, etc. Social networking can also lead to the loss of focus in school. According to News Today News, “[N]early half of the five hundred teachers surveyed believe that this [obsession] affects children’s ability to concentrate in class and follow the lessons.” Students can be distracted during a lesson, thinking about that person they sent a friend request to, or if anyone commented on their newly uploaded picture.
