Throughout high school, my life has been consumed by sports. Being a student athlete has made me become the person I am today. Ever since I was sixteen, I have also worked at a daycare in town, TASK. This has showed me how much little kids look up to student athletes. Working at TASK has also showed me how much these little kids want to grow up and be like us student athletes. Without sports and working at the daycare, I would not be the role model I am today. Since working at the daycare, I have realized I want to be the person little girls are talking about when they say, “I want to grow up and be just like her.” Being chosen team captain has made me into the leader I am. I have learned how to push my teammates…

One famous game in NHL history was the Easter Epic of 1987. That game was game 7 of a series between the Washington Capitals and the New York Islanders. It went into 4 overtimes. The game was started on April 18(that’s why it was nicknamed the Easter Epic) and ended on April 19, Easter morning. It is now the longest game 7 in NHL history. Another great game during the NHL season is the Winter Classic. It is, actually, relatively new. The very first Winter Classic was played between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Buffalo Sabres in Ralph Wilson Stadium in Orchard Park, New York on January 1, 2008. The game is pretty much always played on New Year’s Day every year. The star player of the Pittsburgh Penguins at the time, and still is now, was…

In 1980, The United States ice hockey team had a dream. A dream to finally do the unthinkable at the Olympic Winter Games. To accomplish this, the United States had to come together as one unit and flee to victory. In fact, their victory against the Soviet Union was so incredible, that directors and filmmakers created a movie about this marvelous win. The movie is called “Miracle.” One person that was mentioned quite a bit in the movie is head coach Herb Brooks. In the movie, there are many famous things that the United States had accomplished, but one of the most famous standings from that movie is the inspirational speech coach Herb Brooks gave to his fellow hockey players. “Great moments are born from great opportunity. And that's what you have here tonight, boys.”(Brooks) This speech became a phenomenon to many athletes and coaches around the world. All of the hard work and passion that both the coaches and the players put forth towards the team and each other was what made winning possible. Many people doubted the United States, and they had a very rough…

Shoulder fake left, head fake right, a sweet inside outside move, and he fires it in top shelf, beating the goalie glove side to win the game. While that may sound like a narrative of a game-winning hockey goal, in reality, it is 1:30 AM on your average Thursday night and I am struggling to find the perfect concluding sentence to finish my history term paper. Often when I am struggling to find an answer to a question or need to concentrate on any given topic, I reach for my worn-out Warrior hockey stick and my dusty orange ball and begin to stickhandle mindlessly. One might never know, that my mind is far away from hockey as I look like a complete fool deking (hockey term for getting past people) imaginary people on my way to an imaginary net.…
