Tablets
Should Tablets Replace Textbooks? Today, there is a debate on whether schools should stay with classic textbooks, or take a more advanced approach and use tablets as a replacement for all textbooks. Many schools like Carmel are going about having every student own a tablet for class purposes. This is something that Warren Township High School should really consider. Every student at Warren, for many reasons, should own a tablet.
There is no better substitute for textbooks than a tablet. Studies show that 81% of K-12 teachers believe that “Tablets enrich classroom education”. Also, 77% of teachers found technology to increase student motivation to learn. Students will also be more productive because of the compact size of a tablet. Do you like carrying a huge backpack full of heavy textbooks around school? I know I don’t; students will have the comfort of taking a single lightweight item around instead. Not only that, the Internet is also easily accessible if the student wants more information about a certain subject. A tablet is practical and can be used anywhere which will help students study and complete assignments on-the-go; this will boost grades and knowledge for all students.
Although, rules must be made to restrict the student from using the device for social networks during class, otherwise the tablet will be only a distraction for learning. The cost of tablets can also create a big issue for students; this is because they are significantly more expensive in the short-term. In the long-term, I believe tablets have major advantages and much more to offer.
Warren Township High School must understand that offering tablets to students, as a substitute of textbooks, will enhance learning in all classrooms. The pros far outweigh the cons and I want the tablet to be offered at registration to every student.

Some people think that it is a bad idea to replace tablets with textbooks and some other people think it is a good idea. There can be many opinions over this topic, so let’s explain why we shouldn’t have them replace our textbooks. The first reason that we shouldn’t have them is because if you lose them it’s it will have a critical impact on school. One of the reasons it could have an impact is because we could lose everything you had on it. Not only that but they also cost a lot of money. If we keep the normal textbooks it will save money over time because they last longer than normal devices, and not only that they are a lot cheaper. The textbook might break but they are not that expensive to replace.Another factor with the tablet is that…

Every education major in college are usually anxiously awaiting their time to enter their official classes as education majors. These classes allow these future teachers the knowledge and wisdom they will need to be equipped with for their futures as educators. With that being said, here at Kansas State University the college of education goes above and beyond to make sure their future teachers are equally prepared for the "real world of teaching". They give all their education students the unique privilege and opportunity to have access to an iPad during their education classes. After receiving my iPad I quickly fell in love with it! In 2005 an Arizona high school passed out iBooks to all of its students instead of the traditional textbook (Source A). School officials were under the impression that having this technology would further engage their students in learning, though what they failed to address is other things it might engage their students in. Teenagers of this age already have short attention spans, and when using the internet, the moment a student gets bored they can click out and focus on something that suits them more than hundred year old articles about the Declaration of Independence, and instead spend hours scrolling though Tumblr or watching pointless music videos- or porn (Source E). Until schools figure out a way to quality control the internet, passing out laptops and iPads will not necessarily engage their students in learning.…

iPads are better for education because iPads are accessible and easier to move around with. iPads weigh 1.6 pounds. A backpack filled textbooks could way up to 10 pounds dragging students down. iPads are able carry all of those heavy books. They can store all of the students school supplies on its hard drive. Students would never have to carry books or note books again, since students can also take handwritten and typed notes on it. iPads are the best ways to learn these days. They like I said, are easy to move around since all the textbooks can go straight on them saving all that room.…

In, “Schools embracing, not banning electronic devices”, Lisa Reicosky shows readers that the “B.Y.O.D” program that is spreading to schools around the Canton area may not be the smartest idea to hit local high schools. Ipad’s are a great way of incorporating technology into education in the 21st century. However, for this to work effectively professional development should be conducted. Trainings should include applications on the ipad that ensure learning objectives align with content standards, not just for fun. Teachers need to learn how to create well-designed and meaningful activities that promote student learning and align with curriculum/state standards in order to assure successfulness, therefore becoming scholars in their area of study yet again. They are becoming professionals in using ipads effectively. Studies have shown that this type of technology is useful with students who have communication disorders and/or visual impairments. Finally, cell phones are the most helpful when it comes to being organized. Generally, cell phones and tablets are single devices and not as easy to lose as multiple papers. I am not organized. I lose a lot of papers; and if you look in my backpack, it’s a mess. I lost my tutorial for my AVID class before and didn’t get any credit for it. Therefore, if we used tablets more often than papers in class, we could be more organized and keep our stuff together. Tablets can keep us organized and benefit it us.…

First of all I believe that Pads should not be in schools because they distract students when the teacher is teaching. Some schools are banning cell phone and iPods, but iPads stay. Students might have the same social media apps and games on their iPad’s, that they have on their cell phones or iPods. During school social media and games distract students from the teacher. Some parents are worried that all their children do during school is play games and post stuff on social media. And for some students that is true. Therefore I think that schools shouldn’t have iPads because of all the different apps that distract students when they are supposed to be learning.…
